From being a simple barrio lass in Albay who once only dreamed of giving her family a better life and making her Mama proud, Barbie Imperial has gone on to become one of the most popular actresses of her generation. She's among the many alumni of “Pinoy Big Brother” who were able to pursue their careers in showbiz and continuously thrive in this world that keeps on evolving.
Now, more than a decade into her career, she marks another milestone with her ninth teleserye, “Blood vs Duty,” where she takes on the role of Jamilah—the younger sister of Jalil, played by Gerald Anderson. During her solo segment at the Kapamilya Chat Grand Fans Day, alongside lead stars Bela Padilla, Baron Geisler, Gerald Anderson, and Richard Gutierrez, Barbie described Jamilah as a brave, family-oriented young Muslim woman.

But before we get to see her take on the role, which she confessed is completely new to her, let’s reminisce about the actress’ teleserye journey through the years via this Kapamilya Spotlight feature!
Barbie’s ticket to the industry was joining “PBB 737” in 2015, wherein she was given the moniker “Ang Doll Along the Riles ng Albay,” alluding to her doll-like splendor and where her family used to live before she became famous. However, she wasn’t given enough time to introduce herself more fully to the audience, as she was the first evictee of the Teen Edition that season. She stayed inside Bahay ni Kuya for only 14 days, to be exact.
Even though that was the case, she still made it to the local entertainment scene and eventually became one of the most prolific actresses of her generation. She immediately made her acting debut that same year in the romance drama “All of Me,” playing the adorable supporting character Apple de Asis.
After putting herself in the shoes of another person in her first-ever “Maalaala Mo Kaya” appearance in 2015, she eventually got to portray herself in an episode of the longest-running drama anthology program in Asia, as her inspiring life story was featured in 2016 and was titled, “Riles” (or “rail track”).
It was also that year when she appeared regularly on “It’s Showtime” as a member of its in-house girl group “Girltrends,” as well as got cast in the daytime series “Langit Lupa” as Jenny.
The following year, she appeared in two episodes of “Ipaglaban Mo”—in “Sementado” as a rape-slay victim named Lisa and in “Saklolo” as an incest rape victim named Marilyn whose mother refused to help—as well as in the “Family Tree” episode of “MMK,” where she played the younger counterpart of the lead character Clara, who eventually got involved with a married police officer.
Barbie also became part of the fantasy romance series “La Luna Sangre” as Aife, one of the members of Moonchasers, a vigilante group that protects humans against vampires.
2018 was a particularly busy year for her as she worked on multiple projects that showcased her dramatic range. She once again appeared in an episode of “Ipaglaban Mo,” wherein she played Lexi, a student who was sexually taken advantage of by her teacher. It was followed by her portrayal of Glaiza in the “Mangga” episode of “MMK,” who was the third party in the relationship of its lead characters Daisy (Janella Salvador) and Darling (Elmo Magalona). Barbie then figured in an onscreen rivalry with Loisa Andalio as she played Rachel San Pedro in the “Wansapantaym” narrative “Gelli in a Bottle.”
Barbie snagged her biggest break that year when she was chosen to be the leading lady of JM de Guzman in the afternoon romance drama “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi.” She played Michelle Verano, a cheerful and gutsy young advertising agency officer who eventually had a romantic affair with their haughty client, Adrian Oldivar.
It was followed by her stint in the “Set-up” episode of “Ipaglaban Mo,” wherein she portrayed a teenage girl named Bea, who almost fell victim to a human trafficking scheme alongside her sister Carla (Belle Mariano) and another girl named Dani (Sammie Rimando).
She then showcased her comedic flair in the “Wansapanataym” narrative “Switch Be With You,” as she played the narcissistic and conceited sales executive Pia Versoza, who suddenly switched bodies with the simple and hardworking woman Upeng (Chai Fonacier) after being struck by lightning while both of them were at the same place and at the same time.
In 2019, Barbie further got to display her promising chops in drama as she headlined two episodes of “MMK,” namely the “Journal” episode where she and Paulo Angeles depicted the inspiring lovestory of young couple Allanis and Hennesy, and the “Lipstick” episode where she portrayed Maria, a rebellious young woman whose life became wayward due to her dysfunctional relationship with her mother.
She also appeared in the “Saltik” episode of “Ipaglaban Mo,” playing the role of Mitch, who fell victim to the incessant harassment and maniacal behavior of her childhood friend, Jerome (Tony Labrusca), who turned out to be a deranged killer.
Barbie returned to working in teleseryes in 2020, beginning with “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” wherein she was cast as P/Lt. Camille Villaluna, one of the female police officers recruited to help in the operations of Task Force Agila, spearheaded by P/Maj. Ricardo “Cardo” Dalisay (Coco Martin).
Amidst the raging pandemic, she starred in the afternoon soap opera “Bagong Umaga” from the fourth quarter of 2020 to the second quarter of 2021. She impressed us with her dramatic prowess as she took on the kontrabida role of Catherine "Cai" B. Veradona, a rich girl who discovered that she was switched at birth and was actually born into a poor family.
Three years later, she made a teleserye comeback via “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” delighting her fans with her brief yet remarkable stint as the strong-willed and crafty carnapper Tisay, whose group was annihilated by Tanggol (Coco Martin) and his team.
In 2025, she also had a guest appearance in the crime drama “Sins of the Father,” taking on the role of Naomi Silvano, who fell victim to a human trafficking scheme and was forced to work as a dealer for an online casino.
And this 2026, Barbie is poised to impress us anew with her performance in the upcoming Kapamilya action-drama series, “Blood vs Duty,” a project under ABS-CBN’s JRB Creative Production, the creator of “Ang Sa Iyo Ay Akin,” “Darna”, “Nag-aapoy na Damdamin,” and “Sins of the Father” headed by Julie Anne R. Benitez and creative head Dindo Perez.
