Aside from the grand homecoming of ABS-CBN in ALLTV2, “ASAP” also celebrated the milestone 60th birthday of the one and only Megastar and OPM legend Sharon Cuneta through a special musical tribute to her wonderful life and unparalleled legacy as a singer, actress, host, and her other facets as an artist and an individual.
The homage commenced with world champion Jed Madela and Pop Ballad Royalty Erik Santos singing one of her greatest hits, “Pangarap na Bituin,” as they ushered in the birthday celebrant, who sweetly sang “Terminal” by Rupert Holmes. She was eventually joined by her fellow icons and closest friends in showbiz, namely, Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, and Gary Valenciano, as they performed “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell.
Sharon was obviously surprised when Julia Montes, one of her juniors whom she considers her own daughter, suddenly appeared behind her and sang Don McLean’s “Birthday Song” with her. The studio was then filled with kilig when her husband, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, stepped onstage to perform a duet of “The Promise” with her, and they went on to conclude it with a kiss.
It was not only Kiko and Julia who personally delivered their heartfelt birthday messages for the Megastar, but also prime actress Judy Ann Santos—whom she regards as her sister—and her heartthrob nephew, Donny Pangilinan. They enthusiastically greeted her and reminisced about the fondest memories they had to share with Sharon. She also received messages from her beloved sisters-in-law and her cherished four children.
She capped off her birthday celebration by expressing her gratitude to everyone who has been part of her journey throughout the 60 years, especially her sweetheart, Kiko, and blowing out the candle on her birthday cake.
