Finding out that one of your parents has a child or children to another partner or learning that you are a lovechild or a product of an illicit romantic affair might be one of the most painful things that could ever happen to a person.

However, there were some who were able to eventually forgive their parents and accept they’re half-siblings, just like what happened to the Trinidad siblings of the ABS-CBN primetime series “Sins of the Father,” Samuel (Gerald Anderson) and Arissa (Francine Diaz).

Those who have been watching the series ever since it started last June would know that they share the same father—the infamous financial guru Mike Trinidad (John Arcilla), who allegedly took his own life after getting embroiled in a massive scam.

Even though they had probably only found out about each other after their dad’s passing, not to mention that Arissa is Mike’s daughter with Ellen (Aubrey Miles)—the woman whom he cheated on with his wife and Samuel’s mom, Lolita (Lotlot de Leon)—this never served as a hindrance for them to still develop rapport with each other.

As their sibling bond continues to grow, let’s revisit how it all started for Samuel and Arissa in this edition of Kapamilya Toplist.

It can be recalled that their paths first intertwined when Arissa suddenly showed up during the interment of Mike, wherein she introduced herself as his daughter—much to Lolita’s further heartbreak. Although he knew how hurt his mother was to find out that Mike had a child with his mistress, Samuel still chose to be a big brother to his one and only sister by coming to her rescue upon learning through social media that she was being harassed by the people because of their father’s sin.

Apart from simply taking her off the streets, he also brought her home without consulting Lolita first, for he wanted to make sure that she would be safe and alright. As Arissa conveyed her qualms in living with them because of how Lolita reacted on her arrival, Samuel assured her that she was welcome and free to stay as long as she needed since she’s his sister, as well as that his mom is kind, so she doesn’t have to worry about her.

It seemed that Arissa became immediately comfortable with Samuel, as she was able to express her opinion towards his decision to pay back Boying (JV Kapunan), one of the victims of their father who attacked them at their house the night before. Besides, who would forget that it was her who helped Samuel figure out that their dad had left seed phrases that could open the cryptocurrency wallet where he likely kept all the money that he had allegedly scammed?

Being the dutiful and thoughtful kuya that he is, Samuel even drove her to the cafe where she applied for work, then asked if she already had with her everything that she needed and if she wanted to be picked up by him after her shift. Although she was still snooty at her at the time, Samuel reminded her anew that they are siblings, so he would be there for her always. He also called her once out of worry after she failed to come home from work at her usual time of arrival to make sure that she was okay.

While men usually don’t meddle with other people’s business, being the protective and quite cheeky brother that he is, Samuel couldn’t help himself from quizzing Arissa and her newfound friend-slash-colleague Enzo (Seth Fedelin) regarding the real score between them.

Well, he thanked Enzo for letting his sister stay at his condominium unit with him, but he expressed his hope that the young man had nothing but good intentions only for Arissa. Samuel went on to tease them upon learning that Arissa had her own key to Enzo’s unit, which, of course, irked her.

It was then Arissa’s turn to worry about Samuel, whom he finally learned to call “kuya” as per the insistence of Lolita, after he and Enzo were both shot by an assailant. Although it would be difficult for her to keep secrets from Enzo since he’s a friend, she also agreed to his request not to tell Enzo what she knew about his father.

From initially objecting to his decisions, Arissa went on to express her support for Samuel’s dangerous plan of joining the group of Enzo’s father and uncle, Roldan (Joko Diaz) and Jacob (JC de Vera), but on one condition: he had to promise her and Lolita that he would not die.

And lastly, Arissa finally showed her vulnerability as she told Samuel that just like how he had been to her, she would be there for him as well. Unbeknownst to him, she was planning to help him anyway she could—whether he liked it or not—so she couldn’t just back down.

How is their strong siblinghood going to be a big help in Samuel’s fight against bigtime scammers? Let’s all find out by not missing an episode of “Sins of the Father,” weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, TV5 and iWant.
