After working together in “Budoy” in 2011, Gerald Anderson and Jessy Mendiola had their onscreen reunion this 2025 via the primetime series “Sins of the Father,” which is another advocacy-centric series that aims to enlighten people about different kinds of scams and their negative effects, especially on the victims.

While many of us probably assumed at first that Agnes Policarpio, played by Jessy, was an enemy of the Trinidads, especially with how she behaved around and interacted with Samuel, portrayed by Gerald, during their encounters in the earliest episodes of the teleserye, it was later revealed that she’s actually one of his allies.

And the reason why she has been keeping an eye on him or maintaining a safe distance from him is because she’s a civilian asset of P/Col. Enrico Villanueva (Soliman Cruz), who’s in charge of the case of notorious financial guru and Samuel’s late father, Mike Trinidad (John Arcilla). She and Col. Villanueva have been working together to take down the group of Roldan Rivera (Joko Diaz), who’s involved in various scam operations in the Philippines, with Mike’s “Yayaman Tayo Investment Fund” being their biggest scam at the time of his shocking death.

Thus, from being a mere nosey stranger who used to weird out Samuel, Agnes eventually has gone on to become one of his most trusted confidants, as they get closer while working together at Roldan’s company.

As romance seemed impossible to bloom between them for now since Agnes is married to Johnny (RK Bagatsing), all we can do for now is admire their platonic relationship, which continues to grow as time goes by—as seen in their clips together that we’ve collated in this episode of Kapamilya Toplist.

Definitely, not all of us are willing to embroil ourselves with other people’s troubles, especially if they’re not someone whom we really care for or who is not dear to us. But the concern that Agnes showed to Samuel was obviously on a different level since it also extended to his family—and continues to do so at present.

She persistently convinced him to confess the truth about why Roldan would take interest in his child, King (Clave Sun), whom the latter and his younger brother Jacob (JC de Vera) abducted in exchange for Mike’s crypto account that they know has been under the care of Samuel.

Just when Samuel—and perhaps even the viewers—presumed that she was just being nosey again, Agnes actually offered to help him find his son alongside Col. Villanueva. And she was able to find and save King, much to the surprise and delight of Samuel.

That incident has made them closer to each other, as they get to talk not just about their secret mission of toppling down Roldan and his group, but also about each other’s personal lives.

In one of his conversations with Samuel, she imparted that the reason why she accepted the job as a civilian asset of Col. Villanueva despite how dangerous and tough her missions can be is to protect and save innocent children like King, which she wasn’t able to do for her own child.

Samuel has started caring for her, too, as he stopped her from doing something that might put their mission and her life in danger. But she stood her ground and resisted by telling him that she must do it no matter what it takes because every day that she fails to drag Roldan and his group down, their victims tend to grow in number—and her conscience can’t bear the thought of it.

Aside from that, Samuel showed deep concern towards her upon noticing the bruise on her hand, which she got during her altercation with her husband the night before. Agnes tried to deny and downplay it, but Samuel advised her that nobody—not even her husband—has the right to hurt her regardless of the circumstance. He also expressed his willingness to listen to her sob story, just like what a true friend usually does.

Agnes once again came to the rescue of his son when she learned from Samuel that he was rushed to the hospital. She was able to help King stabilize his breathing, for which Samuel was very thankful since he and his mother, Lolita (Lotlot de Leon), didn’t know what to do. And Samuel made sure to let Agnes know how much he appreciates her and everything that she has done for his family.

As much as they tried to fight against their feelings for each other, it was too powerful that it still prevailed, as attested by the short yet passionate kiss that they shared—for which both of them were very apologetic. We don’t know if we can still consider their bond platonic after that smooch, but what we’re sure of is that friends don’t kiss each other that way, right?

And lastly, Agnes was also among the people who were present at Samuel’s side when he gained consciousness after being shot in the abdomen by an unidentified man. Joy and gratitude were indeed evident on her face as tears welled up in her eyes as she admiringly locked eyes with Samuel.

Is there going to be a chance for their platonic relationship to level up to romantic? Well, let’s all find out in the next episodes of “Sins of the Father”, weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, TV5 an and iWant.
