Those who have been hooked with the local entertainment scene in the late 70s are probably familiar with the weekly musical variety show “GMA Supershow,” which was headlined by the late “Master Showman” German Moreno.

And almost three decades since its broadcast ended in 1997, five of its hosts recently had their mini reunion as they competed against each other in the August 16 episode of the ABS-CBN Studios game show “Rainbow Rumble”—Richard Reynoso, Vina Morales, Arlene Muhlach, Jackie Lou Blanco, and John Nite.

The competition among them may have been really stiff, with Arlene and Jackie Lou using their respective “atras power” against Richard when he was only a tile away from the jackpot round (which happened twice!), but it was still him who emerged as the winner in the end. He may not be able to win the P1 million jackpot prize after only getting four out of six unique colors during the “Rainbow Reveal” round, but he still got to win a total of P87,000.

Despite only taking home the consolation prize after she failed to step on at least one of the rainbow tiles, Vina indeed was still in high spirits as she recounted her experience while on the game during the post-episode interview. She may not be lucky this time, but she hopes to be invited again to play and perhaps redeem herself.

For John, it was actually not about the money or who won the game that mattered but how much he and his “GMA Supershow” friends had fun. Meanwhile, Arlene, who won P10,000, initially expressed how sad she was for falling short in her bid to become the episode winner and at the same time happy for Richard. Jackie Lou, who was able to earn P10,000, was also okay with losing since it’s part of the game, and what’s important to her is that she enjoyed the experience and she was able to respond to some of the questions.

When asked which part of the game they found the most challenging, Vina said that it was indeed the swiping of the sensor, as we witnessed how much she struggled to take her turn at least once. Arlene shared the same dilemma, saying that even though she knew the answers, she was no match for their opponents, who apparently had faster hands.

On the other hand, John imparted that he didn’t encounter any problem during the game, even though he fell short of becoming the champion. According to him, it was because he just kept calm, went for it, and stayed positive, which made it possible for him to reach the top of the pyramid and take away P22,000. Jackie Lou, for her part, confessed that she actually found some of the questions difficult.

With regard to their takeaways from the game, Vina said that it would be to take action promptly for one to be able to take their chance, to be really patient, and to enjoy the game regardless of the outcome.

John reiterated that the game made him realize to play not for the money but for the fun of it. Jackie Lou added how important it is to not be pressured and to stay calm in order to hear the question of game show host Luis Manzano, then stressed the importance of just having fun.

Episode winner Richard also shared his realizations about the game. He stated, “Marami akong natutunan kasi infotainment ‘yong show na ‘Rainbow Rumble.’ And even before ako sumali, we do watch the show kasi ang dami ko talagang mga nakukuhang information, mga general knowledge na hindi mo maiisip na ‘yon pala ang sagot doon. Sana nga ituloy-tuloy pa nila ‘to dahil ang daming natututunan dito sa show na ‘to, hindi lang [dahil] sa nakaka-entertain siya.”

He went on to confess to not being able to prepare that much for the game since he just came from work when he went to the taping of “Rainbow Rumble.” When the “Paminsan-minsan” hitmaker was asked which part of the game he enjoyed the most, he said that it was none other than winning the elimination round.
