His “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” character Vincent may be quite lenient toward his best-selling author Mia Hernandez (Anne Curtis) as his literary agent and even tend to easily break the rules just to satisfy her, but Enchong Dee seems to strictly abide by rules he has set for himself with regard to different aspects of life.

And he shared a few of them during his guesting in Kapamilya Chat, as he took on the “Enchong Dee’s and Enchong Don’ts Challenge,” wherein he imparted his dos and don’ts when it comes to career and life in general.

The host began to ask about his rules in accepting roles, to which the talented heartthrob mentioned how his stint in the historical drama film “GomBurZa,” in which he portrayed Padre Jacinto Zamora, has made him more prudent when it comes to choosing the next roles he’s about to play. Since then, it has been his desire to do projects that would both educate him and the audiences because that really made him feel good.

Aside from being educational, he also implied now being after projects that can become cultural references, just like the well-loved 2013 Star Cinema family comedy-drama film “Four Sisters and A Wedding,” which people continue to mention in various conversations.

Furthermore, Enchong likes to do projects that can leave a valuable impact on other people as well. He aspires to experience being approached someday by those who got to watch his show and/or film and would tell him how much that helped them get through whatever difficult situation they’re in, since he takes to heart ABS-CBN’s battle cry—“In the service of the Filipino worldwide.”

When it comes to his “don’ts,” it would be projects that are unreasonably racy. He explained, “Mayroon naman tayong way of telling the narrative of everyone from all walks of life, kahit ano pa man ‘yan ‘yong trabaho mo. Pero we have to remind ourselves na mayroon tayong audience, mayroon tayong responsibilidad sa audience, and we would love to inspire the people as much as we can.”

Apart from being a great actor and one of the beloved hosts of “Pinoy Big Brother,” Enchong is known as well for being a certified “budgetarian,” especially when it comes to traveling. Thus, when quizzed by the host for tips, he initially advised that it’s possible for us to still enjoy our trips without breaking the bank.

According to him, it can be done by making sacrifices in certain parts of the trip and allotting more funds to the others, such as food and experiences. However, we should not forget to also reward ourselves every now and then by allowing ourselves to be comfortable because, after all, it’s our hard-earned money we are about to spend.

Those who follow him on social media have probably seen his videos of him doing “’fit checks” on Instagram, either alone or with his friends or colleagues. When asked for tips regarding how to slay OOTDs, the “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay” star said that we must take into consideration the weather first and foremost. Moreover, we must also not overspend and make sure that we’re comfortable with what we wear.

“Hindi mo kailangan ng mamahaling mga bagay to look good. All you have to do is know yourself, know your height, [and know] kung saan ka komportable kasi comfort also sort of equates to our confidence. So, minsan, kahit na gaano ka-simple ‘yong damit mo pero komportable ka [at] lumalabas ‘yong confidence mo, ‘yon ang naa-appreciate ng mga tao,” he related.

When asked what he would tell people who are struggling to embrace their body type and complexion, Enchong simply said that “we can always do something” about our imperfections or insecurities because he firmly believes that every problem has corresponding solutions that we only have to figure out.

For beachgoers out there, he reminds them to not forget putting on sunscreen to prevent getting sunburn, as well as filming content that they may upload on social media and maybe eventually earn money from. In that way, you could ROI (return of investment) or return the amount you’d invested on your trip that you truly enjoyed. It’s like hitting two birds with one stone, right?

With regard to the “don’ts,” he iterated, “Don’t overspend or borrow money just to have two days of pleasure. Kumbaga, pagsikapan mo, paghirapan mo.”

He then went on to suggest that we may set aside a portion of our income or budget for our upcoming travel to be able to earn enough money for it.

Catch Enchong on “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay,” weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, and TV5. Watch it in advance on Netflix and iWant.
