Watching a teleserye or movie becomes so much more affecting when the perfect theme song plays in the background. It just makes a painful scene even more heart-wrenching, and a kilig moment even more heart-fluttering.
And when it comes to delivering those anthems, no one does it quite like Angeline Quinto, whose hugot-filled vocals and countless teleserye recordings under her belt earned her the title “Queen of Teleserye Theme Songs.”
Kapamilya Chat invited Angeline to take on the “Guess the Song” challenge. Posters from various ABS-CBN teleseryes were flashed on screen, and Angeline had to guess which theme song she sang for each one. And of course, she had to belt out a few lines for us to enjoy.
The game kicked off with “Maria La Del Barrio” (2011), where Angeline immediately guessed “Patuloy Ang Pangarap,” which she considers her first big hit.
Things got a bit tricky with “Minsan Lang Kita Iibigin” (2011). She remembered that Juris sang the main anthem, then eventually recalled that she recorded the sub-theme song “Kunin Mo Na Ang Lahat Sa Akin,” which she gave a “feel na feel” sample of.
She also lent her voice to “Princess and I” (2012), singing “Nag-Iisang Bituin,” which she now dedicates to her late mother, Mama Bob. “Kasi kapag nakakakita ako ng star, feeling ko nando’n siya,” she said, imagining her mom watching over her with a smile.
Angeline was challenged when presented with the poster of “Ina, Kapatid, Anak” (2012). She asked for clues at first but eventually got it right—“Ikaw Lamang,” one of the series’ sub-tracks.
Her memory was also put to the test with “Juan Dela Cruz” (2013). And then, after a few hints, she finally remembered the title, “Sana’y Kapiling Ka.”
Angeline had a mini mental block with “Apoy Sa Dagat” (2013). She couldn’t immediately recall the song “Kailangan Kita,” simply because she recorded it just once and never got to perform it again. To make things even more confusing, there’s also a “Kailangan Kita” by Gary Valenciano, which she initially thought was the one being referenced. She even asked for the track to be played just so she could remember the tune.
“Wala akong ganyan!” she laughed when shown the poster for “The Promise of Forever.” With the number of teleserye theme songs she’s recorded over the years, it’s no surprise that some titles need a little refreshing. But once you mention the song, her memory kicks right in.
One recording she’ll never forget, though, is “Walang Pagsisisi” from “The Broken Marriage Vow” (2022). This one’s extra special because she was pregnant with her firstborn, Sylvio, when she recorded it. She remembered teasing composer Jonathan Manalo, “Sir Jon, alam mong buntis ako tapos ang taas ng ginawa mong kanta.”
In 2024, Angeline recorded a new version of Kim Chiu’s “Mr. Right” for “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim,” where she also starred in.
She may forget a title or two, but one thing’s for sure, when it comes to teleserye anthems, Angeline’s voice is unforgettable.
