Thanks to Cardong Trumpo’s jaw-dropping ‘trumpo’ (spinning top) performances and his eventual win on "Pilipinas Got Talent" Season 7, Pinoys everywhere are finding their interest in this traditional game reignited. So if you’ve ever wondered how to spin a trumpo, Cardo’s here to teach us the basics. Whether you’re a kid picking up a top for the first time or just feeling nostalgic for a classic Pinoy pastime, there’s always something special about the art of the spin.

To start, Cardo demonstrates how tying the string properly makes all the difference. He begins winding the string from the tip of the nail upward, looping it evenly until the entire body of the trumpo is covered and secure in his grip and making sure it’s firm but not overly tight so it twirls smoothly when released.

He also points out that the string shouldn’t drag or touch the ground during the throw, as this can slow the spin or knock the trumpo off balance. The throwing needs to be quick and confident, aimed directly at the ground. A weak toss won’t generate enough spin, while a throw that’s too strong can cause the trumpo to bounce or lose stability.

After teaching the basics, Cardo also treats Kapamilya Chat viewers to an impressive exhibition of his signature tricks. He demonstrates how he can make the trumpo circle steadily on just one finger, and he levels up the show by spinning the trumpo on the tip of a playing card placed on a special prop that rotates the card itself. At one point, he releases the trumpo into the air, then quickly pulls it back with the string so it lands and keeps spinning right on the top of his palm, earning cheers from everyone watching in the studio.

Thanks to Cardong Trumpo, a new generation is discovering just how fun it can be to keep the trumpo spinning. Watch the video to see his step-by-step tutorial and jaw-dropping tricks that are bringing this classic Pinoy game back to life.
