In her movie "Call Me Mother," Metro Manila Film Festival 2025 Best Actor Vice Ganda shows us that being a mother goes way beyond blood or labels. Well, even outside the screen, Vice has been 'mothering' for the longest time. Through her humor, she comforts and lightens heavy moments; through her words of wisdom, she reaches those needing a little guidance or perspective.
So why not combine her punchlines and advice in one go? In this “Meme Nag-text” challenge—yup, a nod to her iconic 'may nag-text' catchphrase—Vice, or Meme as she's fondly called, reads text messages from people looking for advice.
First up was a texter asking how to be wise when it comes to spending their 13th month pay. Of course, Meme kicked it off with a joke, "Unang-una, mahirap 'yan kung hindi ka naman talaga wise." And then she went on slipping in the more practical take, "Pangalawang tanong, magkano ba 'yung 13th month pay mo? Kasi kahit gaano ka magpaka-wise kung kaunti lang naman ang 13th month pay mo baka kulang pa 'yan sa pangangailangan ng pamilya at buhay mo." Sounds like comedy, but it makes sense, right?
Seriously, though, the Unkabogable Superstar said the wisest way to spend your money starts with your mindset. "Make sure you are happy spending it with anything. Maubos man 'yung pera mo, naging masaya ka. Kaysa naman 'yung naubos ang pera mo pero nakanganga ka pa rin at malungkot ka pa rin." At the end of the day, you worked hard for that money, so you have every right to enjoy it. “Just make sure you are happy,” she underscored.
On to romance talk, this time, a texter asked how to move on after finding out that his/her 'ka-talking stage' was also flirting with another person at the same time. "Sampalin mo kasi bastos siya," Meme advised. Well, it’s totally up to you if you want to follow through with that, but the real takeaway here was what she said next, "Hindi na pwede 'yung bait-baitan." And if you do end up giving that slap, she suggested telling the traitor this: "Ay? Masakit? Pasensiya na, 'yan din kasi 'yung naramdaman ko, eh."
Meanwhile, for aspiring comedians, the "It's Showtime" host had a playful warning: "Huwag n'yo nang ituloy 'yan! Nandito pa ako, eh. Huwag n'yo akong tanggalan ng trabaho. Dahil 'pag nadiskubre ang husay n'yo, baka mawalan ako ng eksena dito sa ABS-CBN." Mother's got jokes!
Another texter opened up about their dream to be a dancer, but the dad insists they become a cop instead. Meme’s solution? "Maging dancing policeman ka!" She added in jest, "At saka 'yung mga pulis sumasayaw sila tuwing Christmas party. Pero kung talagang pinipilit ka ng tatay mo na maging pulis, sabihin mo gagawin mo 'yun para sa kanya pero gusto mo ang una mong huhulihin ay siya rin." That's how you serve ambition and rebellion at the same time! LOL.
