Christmas is just around the corner, and just like it, the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival is back to bring warmth to Filipinos with films that inspire, move, and capture the essence of everyday Filipino experiences.

On Kapamilya Chat, Gerald Anderson and Bela Padilla reveal glimpses of their MMFF 2025 entry, “Rekonek,” where a group of characters suddenly wake up to a day without internet, prompting them to reconnect with their loved ones—in new and deeper ways.

In relation to the tandem’s film, they were asked to pick and answer random questions written on multi-colored cards, which Bela went first on, starting with a question about the three biggest turning points in her life.

Joking that the question felt as challenging as a Miss Universe question, the Kapamilya actress went on to share how it all began—being discovered at ABS-CBN during a field trip for her journalism elective at 16.

Initially dreaming of becoming a broadcaster-turned-lawyer, she was spotted by ABS-CBN talent scout Jet Valle in 2007, who offered her a path to Star Magic—just as she was about to graduate.

Bela’s second turning point was her return to ABS-CBN in the long-running drama series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” while her third came with her directorial debut in the romantic drama film “366.”

Turning the spotlight to Gerald, Bela playfully gasped at the question asking him what random thing had recently made him smile.

The household name among Kapamilya heartthrobs initially couldn’t recall anything specific, but he ultimately credited his career—explaining that doing something he’s passionate about is what truly makes him smile.

“[Even] promoting it like this… kapag naniniwala ka sa proyekto at alam mo na may maganda kang nagawa,” he added.

To make the segment a bit more game-like, they were then asked to pick a skill they would love to master instantly. Bela went for a fun, light-hearted choice, selecting tap dancing and even noting that she could make a period film with it.

For Gerald, who was inspired by the plot device in his own starred series “Sins of the Father,” he chose to learn cryptocurrency, highlighting how challenging—and yet fulfilling—it was to master the intricacies of its technical language.

Channelling their own “Groundhog Day” for the final question—about which day they would relive for the rest of their lives—Gerald tenderly reminisced about Christmas at eight years old, when his father surprised him with a Santa Claus–like scene, presents under the Christmas tree, and snow subtly drifting into their house.

He also mentioned that giving back as an adult is truly fulfilling, though he sometimes misses the carefree days of his childhood and deeply appreciates his family for making those years entirely memorable.

“Hindi kami mayaman pero gumawa sila ng paraan,” he expressed.

Experience love in a whole new light with “Rekonek,” premiering in Philippine cinemas this December 25.
