After astounding us with his transformation to a global pop icon in the previous round of “Your Face Sounds Familiar,” Jason Dy had gone on to captivate us with his impersonation of OPM legend Martin Nievera in Week 5, belting out one of his classic hits “Kahit Isang Saglit.”
“Grabe, bata pa lang ako talaga, pinapakinggan ko na si Sir Martin and kapag sumasali ako sa mga singing contest, songs niya ang mga piyesa ko. And sobrang thankful ako kasi nabigyan ako ng pagkakataon na i-cover o gawan ng version ang kanta niyang ‘Be My Lady,’” he related when asked by host Jhong Hilario how much he idolizes the Concert King.
Then he continued, “And noong nagkaroon ako ng 10th anniversary concert, naging guest ko siya sa concert ko. Talagang full circle moment tapos nag-duet kami ng ‘Be My Lady.’”
As if portraying Martin wasn’t tough enough, Jason was dared by the hosts to speak in English and translate certain Tagalog sentences to English, since his icon for this week is known to be an English-speaker. And he didn’t have to do that alone since the hosts invited his fellow celebrity performer Rufa Mae Quinto to join him in taking on the challenge, which completely entertained and left everyone laughing.
Jason’s “Kahit Isang Saglit” performance indeed impressed the jury, as all of them commended him for a job well done. Despite having different singing styles and timbres, he was still able to nail his impersonation of iconic Filipino hitmaker. Ogie Alcasid even gave props to resident coaches Klarisse de Guzman and Nyoy Volante for being excellent and passionate mentors to the celebrity performers.
