Marielle Montellano indeed made a powerful comeback to the “Your Face Sounds Familiar” stage as she and her partner JM Dela Cerna astonished everyone with their exceptional transformation to their Week 5 icons Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande and belted out one of the Wicked’s popular OSTs “Defying Gravity.”
As soon as they stepped out of the iconator, both Marielle and JM instantly mesmerized us with how they perfectly morphed into Glinda and Elphaba of the musical “Wicked”—from their overall physical appearance and costumes to their astounding voices.
They were so great in portraying their icons that the jury, comprised of Ogie Alcasid, Sharon Cuneta, Klarisse de Guzman, and Nyoy Volante, gave them a standing ovation. When asked by hosts Vhong Navarro and Jhong Hilario how he felt about his first-ever female transformation, JM related that although he enjoyed it, he was actually overcome with jitters and doubts, especially with regard to singing the aforementioned song live.
Since “Defying Gravity” was popular for its distinct riffs, the hosts had JMielle and the jury take on the “Wicked Riff Challenge.” Since it was Elphaba’s part, JM demonstrated how it’s done, with Marielle doing it as Glinda.
The hosts then passed it on to Klarisse, who, instead of astounding us with her powerful vocal, amused us when she blurted out her famous “OA!” expression because of how amazing they were. Nyoy exhibited his kulots, while Sharon and Ogie made us laugh with their joint entry.
Aside from giving them a rousing standing ovation, all the four jury members commended JMielle for their very spot-on portrayals of Cynthia and Ariana.
