The spirit of bayanihan shines bright once again as “ASAP Presents: Tulong-Tulong, Kapamilya: A Benefit Concert” gathered some of the country’s most celebrated artists in one inspiring benefit concert last Sunday (November 16). ABS-CBN has long held benefit concerts in times of need, and this episode continued that tradition.
The show opened with a solemn reflection on the recent calamities that struck different parts of the country, reminding viewers that “karamay nila tayo sa muli nilang pagbangon.” Concert King Martin Nievera declared, “As our countrymen continue to mourn and rebuild what was destroyed, let us help them rise out from these challenges.”
Martin opened the show by singing Jamie Rivera’s “Only Selfless Love,” a song that makes us feel the spirit of compassion. His performance was followed by Prince of Pop Erik Santos, who joined Asia's Soul Supreme KZ Tandingan, and Asia's Pop Heartthrob Darren Espanto in a heartfelt rendition of Darren's “Sasagipin Kita.” The stage then welcomed ASAP Divas Angeline Quinto and Jona, as they delivered a heartwarming performance of Regine Velasquez's “Di Ka Nag-iisa.” They were followed by Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, who performed his own song “Kapit Pinoy,” reminding everyone of the strength found in unity.
All performers were wearing their “Love, Joy, Hope,” shirts, a symbol of solidarity with those affected by Typhone Tino and Typhoon Uwan. Gary V.’s stirring words resonated deeply, “Kapit lang, mahal naming mga kababayan. Dahil sa panahon ng mga pagsubok ay lalo tayong tumitibay basta tayong lahat magkakapit-bisig, sama-sama, at walang iwanan.” The Kapamilya singers then came together to sing Yeng Constantino’s “Hawak Kamay,” a testament that no one is ever alone especially in times of need.
After the performances, Martin emphasized that the concert was their way of showing love and support, “We hope through this small effort we’ll be able to strengthen your faith in God and faith in humanity.”
Adding to the heartfelt performances, “ASAP” artists such as Kyle Echarri and KZ Tandingan shared encouraging messages to their kababayans in their own dialects, highlighting the word “padayon”—to keep moving forward. Gen Z Total Performer Alexa Ilacad added that they will also bring attention to stories of those who brought hope in the darkest times, while Donny Pangilinan and Darren Espanto encouraged viewers to extend donations to those in need.
Coming up next, the nation’s girl group BINI graced the stage with a soulful performance of their song “Na Na Nandito Lang,” reminding us of presence, solidarity, and hope in times of hardship.
After this, the members shared inspiring words for their kababayans. Members Colet and Gwen, proudly representing Cebu and Bicol, assured everyone that “Malalampasan po natin ito.” Stacey, hailing from Nueva Vizcaya, assured her fellow Novo Vizcayanos, “Kasama n’yo po kami sa pagbangon.”
Later on, ABS-CBN Foundation advocacy ambassadors Mr. Ernie Lopez and Ms. Michelle Lopez were called to the stage alongside BINI for a special announcement. The nation's girl group revealed that part of the proceeds from their “BINIfied!” concert, to happen this November 29, would be donated to the ABS-CBN Foundation, “Sana po ay marami po sa ating mga kababayan ang makaahon at matulungan nito.” Their words are testament of the foundation’s mission, as Michelle Lopez stated, “Our purpose in the ABS-CBN Foundation is always in the service of the Filipino.” They also called attention to the plight of animals affected by calamities and urging support for them as well.
BINI’s influence as role models for their generation shone through, not only in their music but also in their advocacy.
The special benefit concert also paid tribute to the everyday heroes who rose above during the time of recent calamities. One of the most inspiring stories was that of Jayboy Magdadaro, a 15-year-old student from Cebu who saved more than 50 of his fellow Cebuanos during the floods brought by Typhoon Tino.
Professional basketball player JR was also affected by the calamity, yet he managed to rescue several neighbors, including an elderly man, a three-month-old baby, and an elderly couple. Joshua Sandal used an electric wire to save ten of his neighbors, including an eight-month-old infant, in Cebu. Meanwhile, residents of Dingalan, Aurora showed unity as they worked together to pull a boat ashore despite the raging waves.
These stories of solidarity and compassion stood as testaments of resilience, serving as examples and inspiration to everyone.
The musical performances that followed carried the same spirit of courage. KZ Tandingan delivered a heartfelt performance of her song, “Wag Ka Nang Umiyak,” a song that echoed comfort and strength. RnB Queen Kyla later joined her and performed Ben&Ben’s “Salbabida,” a track that symbolized lifelines in times of struggle, came along later was Power Diva Angeline Quinto, who also uplifted hearts with her song “Huwag Kang Mangamba.”
Stars of “Roja” brought another highlight to the benefit concert as Kyle Echarri and Kai Montinola performed Andra Day’s “Rise Up,” a song about resilience and standing despite the challenges one faces, living up to its title.
After singing, they were joined by Robi Domingo and Donny Pangilinan, who made a special announcement, “On behalf of everyone na bumubuo ng “Roja,” we are donating para sa ating mga Kapamilyang naapektuhan ng bagyo.”
Kai Montinola, speaking to her kababayans in Cebu, gave hope to everyone, “Sana ‘wag nating hayaan ang sarili natin na malumbay, we are in this together. We are rooting for everyone’s safety.” Kyle shared his own words of encouragement, “Laban lang, manalig lang tayo, we have to just pray.”
The “Roja” cast revealed that they themselves were affected during their shoot by the early stages of the typhoon, facing disruptions in their taping schedule and some of the cast members got the flu. Yet they chose to turn their struggles into a message of perseverance, encouraging everyone to keep the faith and continue fighting. As they reminded the audience, “There is hope and there is light.”
In between performances, “ASAP” hosts Robi, Darren, Kyle, and Alexa Ilacad continue to call for donations and highlight other ABS-CBN artists who donated, including “Meet, Greet, & Bye” stars Belle Mariano and Piolo Pascual.
The benefit concert continued to soar with a series of powerful duets that showcased the versatility of Kapamilya singers. Our two singing champions, “Tawag ng Tanghalan All-Star Grand Resbak” champion Marko Rudio and KZ Tandingan brought rock energy to the stage with their version of SB19’s “DAM.” Their performance, complete with rap verses, electrified the audience.
The spotlight then shifted to the ASAP Divas, with Klarisse de Guzman and Jona delivering the empowering anthem “Matibay.” Their vocals embodied the song’s message of fortitude, reminding everyone that strength is not just physical but also emotional and spiritual. Adding to the duets are Jed Madela and Angeline Quinto, for a heartwarming performance of Tillie Moreno and Ray-An Fuentes’ classic “Umagang Kay Ganda.” The vibe they brought to the stage perfectly aligned with the song's message of hope and renewal, uplifting each other in times of trial.
The latter part of the episode brought us the champions of music and inspirations to the youth. The ASAP Champions, JM Yosures, Khimo Gumatay, Lyka Estrella, Reiven Umali, Rea Gen Villareal, and Erik Santos, brought emotions to the stage with their stirring rendition of Diana Ross’ classic “If We Hold On Together.” Their moving delivery reminds everyone that unity and faith can carry us through even the toughest times.
ASAP's finest artists delivered their vibrant take of “Tara Tena.” Seeing Kyla, Jed Madela, Nyoy Volante, Jason Dy, and Ice Seguerra on stage was a delight. The audience jammed and vibed along as they spread nothing but good vibes.
Later on, Alexa Ilacad, KD Estrada, Jarren Garcia, Kai Montinola, JM Yosures, Reiven Umali, Lyka Estrella, and Khimo Gumatay united their voices in singing Ryan Cayabyab’s “Paraiso.” The song is a timeless anthem that underscores the importance of protecting both community and environment while holding on to hope for a brighter tomorrow.
The benefit concert also featured a deep-felt collaboration between Martin and Jona, as they performed “Give the World a Chance.” The duet carried a message of hope and unity. Fresh from her successful solo concert, Jona shared that she would be donating the proceeds she earned to help those affected by the calamities. “I hope it can be a big miracle para sa ating mga Kapamilya,” she said, encouraging her fans and supporters to continue extending help to the victims.
Gary V delivered an empowering message of resiliency and strengthened faith. Through his song “He Won’t Let Go,” Gary’s storytelling style reminded everyone of the importance of trusting God even when life goes astray. His performance felt like a prayer, showing his strong faith and hoping that it would also inspire the people watching.
The last performance of the benefit concert was from “Your Face Sounds Familiar” duo JM Dela Cerna and Marielle Montellano, further uplifting the audience with their voices as they sang Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion's “The Prayer".
As the benefit concert drew to a close, the Kapamilya stars gathered together on stage to announce throughout the show, the benefit concert was able to raise over ₱1 million in donations, and they ensured everyone that it would reach communities most in need.
The “ASAP Presents: Tulong-Tulong Kapamilya" episode ended by showing the ABS-CBN Christmas Special ID, a tradition that brings families together and spreads the message of love, joy, and hope---even in times of calamity.
