Alone and trying to recuperate from the pain of young Edong’s (Renshi de Guzman) imprisonment, young Lucas (Andrez del Rosario) comes across a group of workers resting on the beach and conversing about Ether’s awful situation (Malou Crisologo).
The workers believed that the cause of Esther’s beaten condition and hospitalization was her tragic encounter with a hostile robber on the way to the local bank—supposedly to deposit the funds collected from her alumni batch.
Given Esther’s standing as one of Amurao’s most devout individuals, it was also widely thought that the money was intended for the local church’s renovation. Upon hearing the speculation, Lucas went searching for Esther after the night mass, outside of the church.
His desperation explodes as soon as he sees Esther, and he begs her to reconsider the testimony after insisting that she might be mistaken about Edong as Louisa’s (Mutya Orquia) murderer.
Despite his grief, Esther doesn’t waver from her convictions and simply asks Lucas to pray for himself and Edong, making them feel guilty before pushing him away.
