Every Sunday, "ASAP" reminds us of the power of music to heal and bring people together. With the nation still recovering from back-to-back tragedies, the October 5 episode of the country's longest-running Sunday variety show celebrated the spirit of being a good Filipino through songs that spoke of love and hope.
Opening the show were "ASAP" icons Gary Valenciano, Angeline Quinto, and Klarisse de Guzman with Gary’s 2022 hit “Pwede Pang Mangarap," which carries the message of rising above hardships as there’s always room to dream again.
Zsa Zsa Padilla led the pack for "Upuan," with “Tawag Ng Tanghalan All-Star Grand Resbak” champion Marko Rudio and Asia’s Pop Heartthrob Darren Espanto taking on the rap verses. Fans were also surprised when Kyla joined in, right before Regine Velasquez wrapped up the song with her signature power vocals.
From there, Erik Santos and Darren went all out with “Tatsulok,” joined by Kyle Echarri, reminding everyone that he was first a singer before he was an actor. Martin Nievera and Jona also shared the stage with Janella Salvador, who once again proved that her singer side deserves the spotlight, especially in a song that demanded both elegance and power. Closing the opening number, everyone came together for “Upuan.”
Following the prod, Zsa Zsa got teary-eyed as she recounted how she and the cast of “The Alibi” witnessed the earthquake in Cebu firsthand during their shoot. She also lauded the series' lead actress, Kim Chiu, for leading their team in extending aid to the victims.
For the Filipino audience who always finds comfort in music, Asia’s Songbird, Regine, delivered a heartfelt performance of “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)” before introducing the next kiddie performer.
Making her much-awaited debut on the “ASAP” stage was “Idol Kids Philippines” grand winner Alexa Mendoza, who stunned everyone with her impressive vocals as she performed her first original single, “Maaabot Ko,” composed by Dennis Campaner, which carried an inspiring message for young dreamers to believe that they'll go places with their passion and persistence.
From that soaring number came a 'kilig' kind of thrill as Kapamilya heartthrobs Kyle Echarri and Donny Pangilinan painted the town red with their duet of “Kisapmata.” The two, who headline the upcoming action-drama series “Roja,” couldn’t hide their excitement for the project, which is set to premiere on primetime this October 20.
Heating up the tropical vibe was Yassi Pressman, whose sultry dance moves we’ve truly missed on the “ASAP” stage. For her comeback, she performed the viral hit “GABRIELA” by KATSEYE. Now officially back home as a Kapamilya, Yassi also joins “Roja” alongside Donny and Kyle, who shared how excited they are to work with her and for viewers to finally see the intriguing character she’ll be playing in the series.
The dance floor was on fire as G-Force led an all-out party number with Kapamilya stars, joined by “PBB Gen 11” ex-housemates Brent Manalo, Emilio Daez, and Esnyr, along with ASAP Dance Sirens Chie Filomeno and Anji Salvacion, who all showed off their killer moves.
Fresh from “ASAP in England” and now back home on the “ASAP” stage, JJ Pietsch charmed everyone with his performance of “Back to Forgetting,” which even features Filipino lines, a nod to his Pinoy roots that he proudly wanted to highlight. JJ is the recent champion of Eurovision, known as Europe’s biggest singing competition and the so-called “Olympics of Music."
Also returning to the “ASAP” stage was Cup of Joe, who performed their newest single “Pahina," which had that familiar LSS charm that made fans in the studio sing along.
It wasn’t just the entire studio but the whole universe that swooned when James Reid took the stage to perform his version of “Your Universe.” The crowd went wild when he stepped down toward the audience area, radiating that effortless cool charisma that’s always been his signature.
Keeping the feel-good energy alive, “ASAP” ladies Kai Montinola, Alexa Ilacad, Carmela Ford, and Janella Salvador turned up the heat with their playful Sabrina medley number. The girls' chemistry and confidence on stage made the segment feel like one big pop-girl dream.
The celebration of Pinoy pride continued as Martin Nievera led the stage with new-generation male champions JM Dela Cerna, Reiven Umali, Khimo Gumatay, and JM Yosures. The group delivered a stirring rendition of “Die With a Smile” with none other than Queen of R&B Kyla as their muse.
The episode wrapped up with a special performance where the "ASAP" Kapamilyas joined OPM icon Noel Cabangon for an uplifting rendition of his song "Ako'y Isang Mabuting Pilipino," an anthem that encourages every Filipino to live with honesty and discipline.
