Between all the mystery and tear-jerking confrontations in "It’s Okay to Not Be Okay," where every character is healing their hurt and trauma, there’s always that one scene where Vincent (Enchong Dee) and Madeth (Xyriel Manabat) remind us that laughter can be good therapy too. Their chaotic boss-and-assistant dynamic became the comic relief we never knew we needed. Aren't their banters just too addictive to forget?
And now that the series is coming to an end this week, we know we’re going to miss this duo so much. So before the separation anxiety kicks in, let’s look back at their wittiest moments that have made us laugh since day one.
First on the list is that hilarious scene where Madeth had to follow Vincent all the way to Maravida because her boss needed her there. Vincent, of course, was on a mission to convince his prized writer, Mia (Anne Curtis), to return to Manila. The funniest part was when Madeth complained about how far she traveled just to be treated to a cheap lunch, while Vincent enjoyed a full serving of su-tu-kil or sugba (grilled)-tuwa (stewed)-kilawin (raw meat with vinegar),a Maravida specialty. But Madeth had the last laugh when she gave Vincent a headache by delivering bad news on Mia's books being pulled out from publishing and her endorsements getting postponed because investors weren’t too happy about her leaving the city.
Their banter felt so natural in that episode where Vincent wouldn’t stop pressing Mia about what it would take for her to come back to Manila, let alone start writing her next book. The persistent boss even volunteered Madeth to stay with Mia in her supposedly “haunted” mansion just to make things happen. Madeth’s face at that exact moment deserves its own meme! She only felt relieved when Mia refused the offer, but that relief turned to pure horror when Mia casually mentioned she already had a new housemate. Madeth blurted out that Mia might be seeing things they couldn’t, enough to convince her to hand in her resignation. Luckily, Vincent didn’t let her go, because really, what would our nights be without Madeth's comic scenes?
Sometimes, Madeth really knows how to outsmart her short-tempered and forgetful boss. One morning, they stopped by a café to grab cakes and coffee for Mia, thinking a little sugar might help sweeten her mood and maybe convince her to come back to the city for all the endorsements and opportunities waiting for their team. But Madeth couldn’t help sulking when she realized the cakes weren’t for her. Still, she won this round when she reminded Vincent that in all the times she'd been working with Mia, she had never once seen her eat sweets. So, who ended up taking home all the cakes?
Vincent’s streak of “misfortunes” didn’t end there, though. When they reached the mansion, they were bewildered by the sight of a mysterious figure wrapped in a blanket outside the front door. Their noisy curiosity woke the person, who turned out to be Matmat (Carlo Aquino). Mia then opened the door where Vincent was leaning, causing him to fall. He was further stunned upon learning that his writer had hired Matmat as her new illustrator. Madeth joined in the conversation, so Vincent reacted, "Bakit ka nakiki-yes?" to which Madeth replied, "Para kasali lang ako."
If you ever wondered whether the two are capable of having a serious talk, this next scene is proof that they actually can, at least for a moment. Vincent explained that Mia’s books were the only ones keeping his publishing company alive, so they were bundling other titles with hers just to keep them moving. The company desperately needed Mia's endorsement deals to stay afloat; otherwise, he might have to lay off some employees. But in true Madeth fashion, she broke the somber mood by calling someone to ask about job openings, leaving Vincent to snatch her phone before she could say another word.
Another "bentang-benta" scene between the two was when Vincent met up with Madeth, who had prepared updates about the latest round of online bashing that Mia had been receiving, which they chose to take lightly, pointing out that at least people were still talking about Mia. And since it was a Vincent-and-Madeth conversation, the funny banter was inevitable, starting off when Vincent reacted to the fact that his assistant was getting luckier than him after recently winning a brand-new laptop from a drugstore raffle, when all she intended was to buy medicine for the headache she claimed was caused by her boss.
Brushing off her playful teasing, Vincent urged Madeth to present the research he had asked for, which turned out to be about Gemma (Kaori Oinuma). The slides she prepared included Gemma’s personal details, that she had no boyfriend and wasn’t actively pursuing romance, that she met Patrick (Joshua Garcia) three years ago while working at Santa Monica Hospital, and that she was the only child of a widowed mother who works at the OK Hospital cafeteria.
Vincent got frustrated over Madeth's report lacking the specific details he wanted, like Gemma’s favorites. Madeth hilariously remarked how old-school her boss was, then teased him about the way he smiled while they were talking about Gemma. She advised him to stop wasting time and just pursue Gemma right away. But the exchange ended on a hilarious note when Vincent reacted to Madeth’s remark that Patrick is more handsome than him. Offended, he walked out and left Madeth behind to pay for the food they ordered.
Vincent suffered another round of headache when he found Madeth casually snacking at the compound, even though he had instructed her to keep an eye on Mia at the mansion. With no choice but to listen, he heard her excuse that Mia had sent her home and that she’d been too busy preparing Mia a birthday surprise complete with a dark chocolate cake, which she described as “madilim pero hindi masyadong matamis,” just like Mia’s conscience, according to her.
