In Filipino culture, our love and respect for mothers is unmatched, which is why we, as viewers, can’t help but be absolutely furious at David (McCoy de Leon)’s blatant disrespect toward his mom, Marites (Cherry Pie Picache). Re-watch the moments where David shamelessly insulted and dishonored his mother via this Kapamilya Toplist of scenes from "FPJ's Batang Quiapo." We bet you were seething with anger when David called his grandmother, Tindeng (Charo Santos), a burden for staying at their house. Isn’t disrespecting his grandma just as bad as stepping all over his mom? When Marites stood up for Tindeng, David still insisted that she and her friend Noy (Lou Veloso) were just extra expenses. But David had no right to say that, especially since, first of all, he wasn’t the one shouldering the expenses at the time, and second, Tindeng and Noy contributed to household costs through their hard work selling religious items at the market outside the church.
David was so determined to kick Tindeng out of the house that he played the victim and tattled to his father, Rigor (John Estrada), who immediately confronted and scolded Marites without question.
The same thing happened when David ran to Rigor like a child after Marites slapped him, acting as though he was the biggest sufferer in their home. In reality, he only got hit because of his arrogant way of speaking to his own mother. And to make things worse, David looked absolutely thrilled when Rigor punished Marites because of his whining. It was infuriating to see David glare at his mother like he wanted to kill her while she cried and tried to explain that she was just trying to discipline him.
David’s ego is truly through the roof. One time, he proudly claimed he had more money than anyone else in their family. He even went as far as saying that because Marites and Tindeng wanted to bail his brother Tanggol (Coco Martin) out of jail, it obviously meant they were going to rely on him for financial help. Marites firmly told him they would never ask for his money in situations like that, but instead of backing down, David’s conceit only escalated. He stormed out of the house after raising his voice at his mother, declaring he wouldn’t waste his time on a family that, in his words, is useless and not worth the effort.
In another scene, Marites, like any typical concerned mother, reminded David to let her know if he’d be home late and asked him not to add to their worries, especially since his girlfriend Camille (Yukii Takahashi) was pregnant at the time. But instead of appreciating his mom’s concern, David was miffed and he snapped at her. He angrily told her to stop bothering him because he’s tired from work and school.
Another particularly ‘nakakagalit’ moment was when Marites confronted David about some suspicious text messages on his phone. Of course, David gaslighted her with a mix of snarling and playing the good boy, claiming he isn't a liar. How could someone be so brazen?
Because he’s the one bringing in money—which we all know comes from illegal activities and crimes—David acts like he’s the king of the house. In one scene, he practically shoved money in Marites’ face, telling her to stop accepting help from others after she agreed to let Roda (Joel Lamangan) stay as a boarder in their home. Offended and fed up, Marites slapped her sharp-tongued, small-minded son, saying, "Hindi dahil sa kumikita ka na, may karapatan ka nang bastusin at pagsalitaan ako nang ganyan!" But of course, David played the victim, yelling back that everyone sees him as the bad guy despite helping the family. He even smirked as though he wanted to trample all over his mother’s dignity.
In the next scene, we bet you wanted to throw something at your screen when David rubbed in Marites’ and Santino’s (Ronwaldo Martin) faces that only his money could save their father’s life after he was shot in a police operation. He belittled Marites and Santino’s efforts to borrow money to contribute to the hospital bills, arrogantly saying that his family is useless and he’s the only one who has the financial means.
David even had the audacity to question Marites as a mother, sarcastically laughing and blaming her for raising Tanggol "wrong," claiming it was her fault he turned out evil. Look who's talking!
We bet you wanted to slap David yourself when he blamed Marites for the miscarriage of Rigor's mistress, Lena (Mercedes Cabral), without even knowing the full story. "Anong ginawa mo? Pinatay mo ang kapatid ko," he accused his mother. And then haughtily added, "Nakapatay ka ng isang inosenteng bata, tapos ngayon hugas-kamay ka pa rin." As if that wasn't enough, Rigor joined in and blamed Marites for his infidelity, claiming it was her fault he had a mistress. It was a blood-boiling scene!
