The romantic comedy series “How To Spot A Red Flag,” ABS-CBN Studios’ latest collaboration with online streaming platform Viu, is finally arriving on primetime TV this coming January 27!
But before more fans and Kapamilya viewers get to see it, MJ Felipe had the chance to catch up with its lead stars Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano in the latest episode of “On Cue.”
The series may have already begun streaming on Viu, but DonBelle still feels a different level of excitement as they’re about to return to primetime, several months after their last project “Can’t Buy Me Love” ended in May 2024. They’re thrilled to be able to serve something different and bring entertainment and kilig to people.
While Belle has been a “Dreamscape Entertainment” baby, it is Donny’s first time to work with the prolific and esteemed production unit. Thus, he implied how it has been a pleasure for him to be able to work with them.
“I would say it was such an amazing experience working with them. I’m so glad that we get to share this sa lahat ng Kapamilya natin. Dream project namin ni Belle ‘to, to have a light rom-com na people can watch nang wala silang masyadong iisipin. At the end of the day, bago sila matulog siguro ito ‘yong mapapanood nila para good dreams at nakangiti kayong matutulog, ‘di ba? I’m very excited to see it on free TV,” he conveyed.
Since they shot “How To Spot A Red Flag” entirely in La Union, MJ asked them for the activities they would recommend other people try when they come to the province. Both of them gushed over surfing, but the host asked for other suggestions, to which Belle raved about the majestic Tangadan Falls, while Donny suggested going on restaurant hopping to have a taste of different delectable and satisfying food.
MJ then veered the conversation to the things DonBelle considers as “red flag” or “green flag” about each other. As both of them regard being pleasant-smelling as each other’s “green flag,” the two unleashed the scent connoisseur in them as they described how each other smells and one another’s scent that they like the most.
Furthermore, Belle also admires his generosity, as he liked treating everybody on the set. But when asked what’s the most generous gift she’d ever receive from him, she divulged that it was a Barney DVD since she grew up watching the kiddie show and loved it so much. She deeply appreciated the present since he exerted effort to look for a copy and was able to find one.
They also tackled each other’s red flag, with Donny revealing that it’s her habit of not replying to text messages for Belle. However, he defended her by saying that it’s just okay since we really can’t expect people to be on their phones all the time like them, who opt to do other things that really matter or to be out and about. Belle affirmed this by admitting that she doesn’t really reply to texts since she more prefers to be a “one call away person.”
Meanwhile, Belle doesn’t like it when he is hungry or lacks sleep because he tends to get ill-tempered. Thus, in order to perk him up or appease him, she would usually give him food, especially his favorite ramen or any food with soup.
With regard to their “love language,” Donny confirmed that he’s best at words of affirmation. He elaborated, “I think it’s one of. We always say communication is one of the best things talaga, especially when you've been part of something for so long and you see yourselves as teammates and not as enemies. I think it’s very important.”
Then he added, “When she does the same, it really does a lot for the both of us and it boosts our morale. It makes sure that we go through any scene or fight for anything that we want to fight for.”
Belle, on the other hand, believes that every one of us possesses the qualities of all the love languages; it’s just a matter of which stands out the most. But she agrees that Donny’s love languages are words, affirmation, and quality time.
It is also words of affirmation for Belle, according to Donny, because she tends to talk a lot without getting tired and is great at speaking with different people, which is something that he admires and wishes to develop.
