As viewers, we’ve grown familiar with seeing Rigor (John Estrada) torment Tanggol (Coco Martin) from a young age just because he isn’t his biological father. And now that Tanggol has finally learned the truth, we expect Rigor’s fiery hatred to intensify—but it seems like Tanggol is just as furious. Their next confrontation in "FPJ's Batang Quiapo" is sure going to be explosive. But before we get there, let’s revisit some of the most harrowing moments that have shown just how much Rigor despised Tanggol from the very beginning.
Rigor seemed to curse Tanggol's very existence from the moment he was born. Tanggol, the child of Marites (Cherry Pie Picache) and the man who assaulted her, Ramon (Christopher de Leon), became the target of Rigor’s anger and resentment. This Kapamilya Toplist video montage opens with Marites (then played by Miles Ocampo) pushed to desperation as the infant Tanggol cried uncontrollably. Rigor (then portrayed by Ejay Falcon), enraged by the noise, came dangerously close to harming the baby. Thankfully, Tindeng (then played by Lara Quigaman) intervened just in time to stop the impending violence.
Even as Tanggol grew into adulthood, no matter what he does or say, Rigor will always find fault in him and is constantly ready to beat him. His wickedness was further fueled by David's (McCoy de Leon) manipulations, like when David informed him that Tanggol had been involved in a street brawl. So, when Tanggol arrived and reached out to show respect, Rigor responded with fury and mercilessly beat him again.
Rigor’s heartlessness was also shown in another episode when he found Tanggol sleeping and noticed a wound on his stomach. Instead of showing concern, he kicked Tanggol’s wound and then proceeded to punish him further, assuming that Tanggol had been one of the thieves who attacked Quiapo the previous day.
And who could forget the scene where Rigor roamed the neighborhood with a rifle in hand as he hunted Tanggol in a rage after David manipulated him into believing that Tanggol had beaten him up, despite David being the one at fault? Fueled by blind fury, Rigor arrogantly caused chaos, firing shots recklessly at the area where he found Tanggol drinking with his friends. He showed no concern for the innocent lives that could be caught in his rampage.
Of course, when the opportunity arose to capture Tanggol—who had been involved in a shootout with authorities after stealing money to give to Mokang (Lovi Poe)—Rigor wasted no time. He grabbed the chance without hesitation and shot Tanggol to prevent his escape. He was unmistakably delighted when he finally saw Tanggol behind bars, as if he had long been waiting for that moment to savor his ‘son’s’ suffering. With venom in his words, Rigor declared that he regretted nothing he had done to Tanggol. This triggered a flood of painful flashbacks for Tanggol—memories of his father mercilessly raising his hand against him since he was just a child.
Whenever trouble arises, expect Rigor to always place the blame squarely on Tanggol. One memorable instance was when a riot broke out inside the correctional facility where Tanggol and his friends were detained. Without knowing the true cause of the chaos, Rigor immediately accused Tanggol and mercilessly hit him with a rifle. He even came close to shooting him on the spot, if not for Bubbles (Ivana Alawi)' timely intervention.
After Tanggol’s release from prison, there was a scene where he secretly visited their home, only to be discovered by David, who greeted him with a brutal beating. The arrogant David was no match for Tanggol's fighting skill, so he ended up crying out like a child for his father’s help. Rigor and David then joined forces in attacking Tanggol. They pointed a gun at him and ordered barangay officials to take Tanggol away, saying he would only cause more trouble if left alone.
Rigor’s cruelty was on another level when he spotted Tanggol paying his respects at Noy’s (Lou Veloso) wake. Consumed by rage, he exploded like a volcano and once again unleashed his violent side. Even Rigor’s youngest and biological son, Santino (Ronwaldo Martin), who had finally had enough of his abusive ways, wasn’t spared from his evil outbursts.
