For the second week of 2025 and the 100th week of its highly successful run, “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” made sure to fill its episodes from January 6 to January 10 with totally mind-blowing, suspenseful, and intense scenes that riveted the viewers.
It commenced with the supposed solemn interment of Noy (Lou Veloso), which turned out tragic and chaotic after Olga (Irma Adlawan) detonated the bomb that she hid under his casket. As her minions checked if their main target, Tanggol (Coco Martin), was already dead, he regained consciousness and even had the strength to fight back against the goons surrounding him. Tanggol’s friends immediately came to his rescue upon hearing the explosion, and an intense gunfight ensued, which included him riding a cart while riddling the enemies with unlimited bullets.
Tanggol and Olga then had a scorching spat, through which he found out that she and Beng were just one, that she was the culprit behind the mysterious death of Mokang (Lovi Poe), and that she was the mother of Greg (RK Bagatsing), whom he mercilessly killed in one of their encounters in the early days of the series.
Since they failed in their mission to kill Tanggol, Olga resorted to taking down his loved ones, particularly his beloved mother, Marites (Cherry Pie Picache), so that he would know what it’s like to lose everyone he cared about—just like what happened to her.
Olga and her henchmen quickly headed to the hospital where Tindeng (Charo Santos) and Marites were confined and seized them to use them as bait against Tanggol. However, the mighty mother-daughter tandem was able to escape from them, with Olga choosing to focus on hunting down Marites until they reached the rooftop of the structure.
Tanggol was able to keep up with them after learning from Tindeng about the dire situation that Marites was in. As soon as he arrived on the scene, Olga’s attention was on him as she didn’t just command her minions to assault him, but she also stabbed him so deep in the abdomen in front of the weeping Marites. In spite of this, Tanggol still mustered the strength to hit Olga on the head with his own and stabbed the goons with the weapon used by Olga.
Of course, Olga didn’t let the two escape as she shot them and went on to torture Tanggol by not only kicking his wounds but also stepping on his hands as he held on to the ledge to prevent himself from falling off the building. There, Olga revealed to Tanggol that the reason why Rigor (John Estrada) hates him so much was because he’s not really his father.
Seeing that her son was in great danger, the wounded Marites pounced on the opportunity to strike back at their ruthless foe by shooting her multiple times, which got Olga plunging to her death, as it was she who fell off the building. Viewers indeed felt déjà vu as Marites once again uttered her famous words, “Anak ko ‘yan!,” which we heard for the first time in the pilot week as she prevented Olga from taking her son away upon giving birth to him at the market.
Instead of thanking Marites for being able to save him from completely falling to his demise, Tanggol expressed his rage towards her and Tindeng—who had just arrived at the scene—for lying to him about his true identity. He then left with his friends and headed back to their hideout, where his wounds were treated, and he related to them what he just found out about himself. Enteng then vowed to help him exact vengeance against Rigor once he recuperated.
Worried that his secret would finally be exposed after Ramon (Christopher de Leon) confessed about developing romantic feelings towards Marites, David (McCoy de Leon) immediately acted upon it by calling Rigor to tell him that his mother is having an affair with another man.
Afterwards, Ramon’s right-hand man, Franco (John Medina), delivered the gruesome news about Olga’s death, which shocked and delighted both Ramon and David. As Ramon was about to hack her with a bolo, David stopped him and volunteered to do it for him since we all know how much he hated her for being so domineering and arrogant towards him.
Meanwhile, the group of Primo (Lito Lapid) continued with their preparation for their waging war against Augustus (Julio Diaz) as they didn’t only acquire more guns and other ammunitions but also recruited more men. It was also the police chief who was the target of Red Phoenix as they aimed to kill him for impairing their drug business, so they followed him up to his transaction with Divina (Rosanna Roces) and Mr. Mogapi.
An intense gunfight ensued among the groups of Divina, Augustus, and Red Phoenix as soon as the transaction was finished, which resulted in Augustus getting fatally shot. Despite him crossing them, Divina and his men still helped Augustus escape as he vowed to give them their share of the profit. They went straight to their hideout, where the Red Phoenix was able to follow them, and an intense shootout ensued between the two groups.
Despite being wounded, Tanggol was still able to spearhead his group in fighting the enemies. Majority of the Red Phoenix members agreed to flee and leave Roy (Jeffrey Tam) and Mr. Wu (Ricardo Cepeda) upon the suggestion of Lucio (Ronnie Lazaro).
For sure, avid viewers of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” didn’t expect to see the events that transpired in the previous, right? Who would have thought that Olga, who’s among the main antagonists, would die this soon without even knowing that it was her ally, David, who really killed her beloved daughter, Samantha? As much as we abhor her, there’s definitely a part of us that sympathizes with her and wishes for her to find justice, at least for one of her children.
