DNA members Tasha, Julia, and Ezri revealed how they prepared for the release of their first self-titled album, and teased what fans can expect from it.
For DNA, music has been an ever-present part of their life. As the daughters of Raul Mitra and Cacai Velasquez–Mitra, and the nieces of Regine Velasquez, it only seemed natural that their roads would lead them to careers in entertainment.
Still, the road has been anything but easy. In an interview during their album cover photoshoot, sisters Tasha, Julia, and Ezri opened up about how they’ve been tirelessly preparing for their first album release.
“The challenge is the best part,” Ezri said. “We train every day, we train in the rehearsal room every day, we figure out the dance, stress over the dance, and also stress over how we’re gonna sing the song, but what I find the best, or what I find most joyful, is seeing the progress.”
Tasha also mentioned needing to "lock in" when she learned the new choreography for the album. “Spider for example, went through at least 30 versions of choreo. We really need to focus and to lock in to remember all those different versions and to clean and to just make sure everything looks in sync.”
Julia specifically noted that building up her stamina and endurance through working out was part of her preparations: “I started going to Pilates. Recently I’ve been taking up indoor cycling, so that was really fun.”
When asked about how this album expands their musicality, Ezri, the composer of "Don't Ask Me Why" and "BINGO," noted that the album will take fans through a progression between the two tracks.
“Rather than stepping away necessarily from ‘Don't Ask Me Why’ and ‘BINGO’, we’re trying to incorporate that because it's still included in our experience of finding ourselves, finding our sound.” She also revealed that she had a hand in composing two additional songs on the album – which is something fans can look forward to.
As members of a musically-inclined family, DNA’s preparation for this album also came hand-in-hand with professional critiques on their dancing and vocals. Tasha revealed that their tita also provided them with a handful of personal advice on how to handle the release.
“One of her favorite things to say is just to always rely on your sisters, and rely on each other, ‘cause that's something not a lot of people can say about being a P-Pop group.”
DNA made their debut last October with "Don’t Ask Me Why" and later released their single "BINGO" in February this year.
