MANILA — The cat is finally out of the bag!
After months of keeping it a secret, DreamWorks has finally announced that the nation’s girl group, BINI, together with H.E.R., Broadway diva Lea Salonga, and KATSEYE leader Sophia Laforteza, will join forces for the official soundtrack of the highly anticipated animated movie “Forgotten Island.”
According to an article published by Variety, BINI will sing “A Parallel World,” produced by composer Nathan Matthew David and Shawn Wasabi. Angela Leus, Senior Vice President of Film Music at Universal Pictures, said she had her “radar” on BINI early on, even before Coachella.
Speaking exclusively to ABS-CBN News on the eve of their “Signals” world tour kick-off, BINI shared their experience after receiving the invitation from DreamWorks.
“We were able to watch the movie na, like way back,” Mikha said. “So we’re so excited, ’coz the song is super chill, at the same time very nostalgic in the movie. It really matches; it represents the Filipinos.”
Stacey added, “Nung napanood namin yung movie, lahat kami naging emotional. At the same time, proud kasi may nakita kami doon na jeep—Pinoy culture talaga.”
During their trainee days, Stacey said they were already big fans of DreamWorks movies.
“Kaming girls, ang bonding namin dati sa BINI house, magwa-watch kami ng DreamWorks movies—‘The Croods,’ anything na ‘Kung Fu Panda,’ ‘Madagascar,’ lahat. Kaya nung inannounce ni MQ (Mallari, BINI’s manager) na we’re singing the soundtrack for ‘Forgotten Island,’ napaiyak kaming lahat.”
Aiah recalled how it felt during the recording session: “Super duper fun po, kasi ano sila, very supportive. ’Di ba, nung nagre-record tayo, lagi silang pumapalakpak, nagre-cheer sila. So the energy was just really bright and happy.”
With a star-studded lineup of Filipino talents lending their voices—such as H.E.R., Liza Soberano, Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, and Jo Koy—it’s definitely a milestone for the nation’s girl group to have their vocals add color to a scene that depicts the friendship between characters Jo and Raissa.
“It’s an honor to be part of this,” Maloi said. “Kasi first time naming maging part ng isang DreamWorks project. And the fact na it’s a Filipino-centric movie, and we’re part of it, we’ll be hearing our voices sa isang movie that represents the Philippines, is such a big deal for us.”
A remixed version of INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart” will be sung by KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza. H.E.R. and Liza will team up for the lead track entitled “BRB,” and Lea Salonga’s vocals will also be featured on the soundtrack.
“The music in the film blends influences from the 1980s and ’90s, particularly drawing inspiration from Filipino and Filipino-American musical culture,” the Variety article noted.
Will BINI perform “A Parallel World” at their “Signals” world tour kick-off this weekend? We’re about to find out.
