There’s a new girl group in town - eight young, high-spirited and cheerful girls - Alexa, Jhamayka, Ada, Aerise, Thea, Jessie, Yuni and Dina - collectively known as "MeiMei".
Their group name is derived from the Pinoy tradition of repeating a name. They chose "Mei", as it is one of the commonly used Pinoy names.
During their debut showcase, MeiMei performed their launching single "Telebong", an homage to the Filipino childhood game.
Accompanied by a music video, "Telebong" showed how the nostalgic Filipino experience can be a household name in this new generation.
“We want to give justice yung talents na pinasa po sa atin ng mga ancestors natin is maipagmamalaki natin,” said Jhamayka.
She also stressed that MeiMei aims to highlight their Filipino roots through their songs and bring out also their authentic personality and character.
"MeiMei" is under Groove Garden Records, the music label of PULP Music Group founded by Vernon Go and Happee Sy-Go.
They’re set to release an EP entitled "Hello Po" and promises to show off their playful personality, vibrant sound and Pinoy spirit.
