MANILA — From their beginnings as contestants on “It’s Showtime” to becoming some of its crowd-favorite performers, Arianne Dela Cruz, Chole Florendo, Johaira Moris, Juby Sabino, Jelai Ahamil, Eriel Reyes, and Ina Ortega are now recording artists with the release of their debut EP, “ZoomBaby Dolls.”

The members of the Baby Dolls came from the noontime show’s “Girl on Fire” and “Sexy Babe” segments.

“Wala po mapaglagyan saya namin at tuwa sa opportunity na binigay sa amin at paniniwala sa talentong binigay sa amin,” Sabino said in an interview held after the stage debut of their tracks at the “It’s Showtime” studio in Quezon City.

“Sobrang saya na nabigyan kami ng ganitong opportunity,” Ortega added.

The septet described the five-track record as a collection of feel-good, playful music. The key track is “Ikembot Mo,” with the EP also featuring “Clap Clap Clap Alright!,” “Kitang Kita,” “Oooh Lala Baby,” and “Dulce Tirah Tirah.”

“Yung energy na mabibigay namin, mapapalabas namin lahat ng kulay sa puso niyo — lahat ng colors ‘pag sinayaw niyo Baby Dolls na kanta,” Florendo explained.

The song was composed and produced by Christian Martinez, arranged and mixed and mastered by Albert Tamayo, with StarPop label head Roque “Rox” Santos as supervising producer.

“Nagbatuhan kami ng ideas with Star Music and managers from Showtime. Since masa ang ‘Showtime,’ very masa kami. We want to cater to everyone as much as we can and be inclusive,” Reyes said. ”’Yung excitement namin sana maramdaman niyo, we are happy we performed it for everyone — we did it, girls.”

The choreography alongside the catchy tracks was led by Ahamil.

“Noong binigyan kami concept, pinakinggan ko talaga music. And super happy ‘yung girls, kahit sa 'kin in-assign, talagang ina-approve nila and nagbibigay sila ng ideas. Lahat ng ideas ng girls nalabas namin sa outcome,” she recalled.

Among the artist they hope to collaborate with and was one of their influences was the SexBomb Girls.

“Pinalaki kami ng SexBomb,” Ahamil enthused.
