After launching her debut album “Sayaw” last year, former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Kolette Madelo is set to focus on both her acting and singing career this year. She is currently seen as part of the cast of the primetime series What Lies Beneath and will also be seen as part of the upcoming one-night only benefit concert Ikalawang Yugto: Buhay at Pag-Ibig where she shares the stage with a talented lineup of local artists.
“Sobrang excited ako kasi makakasama ko ang IV of Spades, si Kai , at ‘yung dalawang champion sa Tawag ng Tanghalan na si Christian at Arvery,” she told PUSH ABS-CBN in an exclusive interview.
“Of course, familiar ako sa IV of Spades. Marami silang mga kanta na sumikat. And ‘yung pinakapaborito ko is ‘yung ‘Mundo‘ and ‘yung ‘Come Inside of My Heart.’ Ang nagustuhan ko sa music nila, kakaiba. Kasi parang pang retro, ‘yung may sinauna, pero may aesthetic na new. Parang sobrang, sobrang hirap siya i-explain. Pero parang ganun ‘yung music nila,” she added.
With plans for her to make an EP album later this year, Kolette admitted that her love for acting only developed last year before she joined the series. She shared what transpired during her first audition for What Lies Beneath.
“Love ko po ‘yung pag-perform ko and ‘yung acting. Later ko lang talaga na-love ‘yung acting, kasi sabi ko, ayaw ko mag-acting. Hindi ako naiiyak. Nung nag-audition ako para sa What Lies Beneath, hindi ko inakala na matatanggap ako. Kasi tinanong ako ni direk Dado, ‘Umiiyak ka ba?’ Sabi ko, ‘Hindi.’ Sabi ni direk, ‘Bakit hindi ka umiiyak?’ Sabi ko, ‘Hindi ako naiiyak, direk. Siguro napagod na ako sa sad ng buhay ko, parang hindi na, parang sobrang tigas na. Hindi na ako naiiyak. Parang ubos na ang luha ko,” Kolette said.

Luckily for Kolette, the Kapamilya director gave her a chance to prove herself worthy of the role. “Sabi ni direk Dado, ‘Okay sige, mag-chika-chika ka na.‘ Pina-acting ako. Tapos sabi ni direk, ‘Ano plan mo? Gusto mo bang mag-acting o hindi?’ Sabi ko, ‘Hindi po.’ Natapos na mga ilang months at tinawagan ako ni Mama Joy, sabi niya, ‘May taping ka sa What Lies Beneath.’ Sabi ko, ‘Mama Joy, ito po ba ‘yung hindi ako natanggap? Akala ko hindi ako natanggap.’ Tapos kinuha ako, dire-derecho na. Sabi sa akin ni direk Dado, ‘Alam ko kasi na may ilalabas ka.‘ Sabi rin niya na may nakita siya sa mga mata ko,” she added.
