Singer Maki recently opened up about the inspiration behind his hit single "Kahel na Langit."
In an interview with Mimiyuuuh for her YouTube vlog, Maki revealed that he wrote the song during a period in his life when he felt extremely exhausted yet had no romantic partner to confide in.
"Ako kasi personally I wrote this specifically nung time na sobra akong pagod ako talaga. 'Di ko na name-measure 'yung pagod ko to the point na matutulog na lang ako, pipikit na lang ako pag-uwi sa bahay tapos hindi ko siya nare-realize na wala akong nasasabihan tungkol sa victories ko. iIba kasi 'yung sabihin mo sa friends or sa family pero 'yung romantically wala ka," he recounted.
Maki admitted that having a special someone gives a different sense of security. "Feeling mo safe ka kahit ka kahit anong sabihin [mo], no judgment at all," he said.
He further explained that the song highlights a simple but powerful truth about love. "Ang pinaka-gusto kong i-expand na feeling sa song is 'yung mga taong minahal natin, malalaman mong totoo kang nag-love ng tao kapag ka sa victories mo, siya 'yung hinahanap mo at kapag nanalo ka na siya pa rin 'yung hinahanap mo. Siya 'yung gusto mong sabihan first pero wala na siya para marinig 'yun. Para sa akin, 'yan 'yung real love talaga rin," he said.
The singer also acknowledged that fans have found their own interpretations of the song, with many relating it to family and other forms of love.
"Nung sinulat ko 'to, hindi ko pa siya nakita na ganun siya. Parang na-realize ko siya na may nagco-comment na na mga tao na as in long comments. Sabi nila, they never really engaged with that feeling, kumbaga walang words that would suffice kung ano ang nararamdaman nila... Itong kantang 'to 'yung nagbigay sa kanila [of that through words]. At least may mga tao na alam nila na hindi lang sila 'yung nagsu-suffer sa ganung challenge in life," he said.
