David Licauco has been adored by fans for his swoon-worthy, head-turning leading man roles. But now, the Pambansang Ginoo has an exciting new gift for his loyal supporters—music.
In an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN during his single launch, David shared what he believes makes his latest song, "I Think I Love You," well-loved by listeners.
“I think number one, the song is really catchy by its name. 'I Think I Love You' is something that is easy to remember. And I think you would want to listen to something like that even if it wasn't me as a singer. Hence the Top 5 on iTunes. And yeah, when it was released, at first I was nervous. I would not know how the people would react to my song,” David admitted.
"I Think I Love You" debuted strong, landing in the Top 5 of iTunes Philippines during its official release. It was the only OPM song in the Top 5 at the time. But even before its release, the feel-good, upbeat track had already shot to the top of the iTunes Philippines pre-order charts.
David added that recording the song also came with its share of uncertainties: “I also wasn't sure how the song was at that point. So yeah, so much uncertainties but when I got to listen to it I was really grateful for Universal Records.”
This isn’t actually David’s first foray into music. In 2022, he released "Kailangan Kita" as part of the official soundtrack for his hit television series alongside Barbie Forteza and Dennis Trillo. As of this writing, the song’s music video has garnered over 700,000 views, while it has also amassed over 500,000 streams on Spotify.
The premier leading man shared that continuing his music career was also unexpected, but as someone who always seizes every opportunity, he’s embracing this new path.
“Actually last year pa lang, I was supposed to record a song. But then, of course, with everything that I had to do last year, I wasn't able to do it. But now, we're here. To go back to your question, I did not expect it. But then, I'm a person who would always want to try everything and every opportunity that I get, I always try to maximize it, (and) accept it,” David expressed.
David also opened up about how having his own song is a truly unique experience for him.
“I would sing in the mall shows, sa mga raket, ganyan. Hindi naman siya super new to me. But of course, I mean cover lang yung ginawa ko. Siyempre, that's different from having like your own song, right?” he said.
In the meantime, David also teased that he’ll be performing the song for his supporters soon.
“Let's see when I will be performing this new song. But I'm really looking forward to it,” David mentioned.
