After celebrating his band’s 30th anniversary last January, Chito Miranda shared another nostalgic moment with Parokya ni Edgar in a recent Instagram post he uploaded last April 28. The popular rock band Parokya ni Edgar was first formed in 1993 with Chito and his high school classmates from Ateneo de Manila University.

In his post accompanied by a recent group photo taken out of town, Chito reintroduced Parokya’s original members like vocalist Jeric Estaco and guitarist Mikko Yap who left the band before they were officially launched.
He wrote, “Eto yung pinaka-unang line up ng Parokya ni Edgar. We were just 17yrs old nung binuo namin yung banda. Si Jeric yung nag-announce na Parokya ni Edgar yung pangalan ng banda namin kahit Comic Relief naman talaga dapat...buti nalang hehe. Siya yung gumawa ng 'Nakaw Ang Wallet Ko.' Di na siya sumama tumugtog nung nag-seryoso na kami sa pagbabanda. Si Mikko naman yung lead guitarist namin...sa bahay nya kami nagpa-practice. Nag-quit siya bago kami magka-album para mag-aral sa UPLB. Si Darius yung pumalit sa kaniya.”
Apart from his other classmates Gab Chee Kee, and Vinch Montaner who were already part of the band, Chito also explained the inclusion of the members who ended up being part the iconic lineup of Parokya ni Edgar like Dindin Moreno, Buwi Meneses, and Darius Semaña. Chito also acknowledged their classmate Bambi Cuna, who first coined the name of the band.
“Si Gab, anak ng teacher, tapos marunong siya mag-gitara at kumanta, pero mahiyain kaya ako yung pinapakanta niya. Si Vinch yung 2nd back up singer/ dancer tulad ni Jeric. Sinama namin sya kasi kelangan nya ng extra credit sa English. Ako naman si Chito...naging bokalista kahit di naman ako marunong kumanta. Dinaan ko lang sa yabang at kapal ng mukha.✌🏼😅
"Si Bambi naman yung kaklase namin na sumagot ng 'Parokya ni Edgar' nung tinanong ng teacher namin kung saan nag-aral si Crisostomo Ibarra. Dun namin nakuha yung pangalan namin. Siya yung katabi ni Dindin na may arrow [in the photo]. (Hindi pa kasama si Dindin sa Parokya nung una kasi hindi namin sya kaklase...pumasok lang sya bilang drummer kasabay ni Buwi nung na-invite kami mag-front act sa Eheads)”

Before ending his post, Chito shared just how grateful he and his bandmates are to their old friends who helped shape and define the identity of one of the country’s most enduring and well-loved bands.
“High school classmates din namin yung mga kasama namin. May gig kasi kami sa Camsur at sumama sila lahat. Our band owes them everything. Eheads yung nag-inspire sa amin magbanda...pero yung humor, kalokohan, pilyong barkadahan, and overall concept ng Parokya ay bunga ng pagkakaroon ng mga kaibigang ungas tulad ng mga 'to.❤️”
After more than 32 years in the industry, Parokya can be considered one of the most successful rock bands in the country, with the group having released a total of 11 studio albums, one Christmas album, two compilation albums and two live albums which began with their highly successful debut album, Khangkhungkherrnitz in 1996.
Last December, the group was bestowed the Dangal ng Musikang Filipino award during the 37th Awit Awards which is a title given to OPM artists that have proven to have made a powerful impact on the local music industry.
