Legendary Filipino rock band Eraserheads is set to bring an unforgettable night of nostalgia and rock classics to Melbourne on March 1 as part of their highly anticipated Huling El Bimbo world tour.
This marks the band’s first-ever performance in Melbourne.
“We are so excited! It’s our first time in Melbourne! We only played in Sydney maybe 20 years ago, so we are very excited,” said drummer Raimund Marasigan.
When asked about their setlist for the show, front man Ely Buendia teased, “Lagi kami may ginagawang bago, so abangan na lang nila.” Marasigan added, “We will be playing all the songs they love plus a few Easter eggs.”
Meanwhile, bassist Buddy Zabala jokingly said, “Kung mayroon kayong request? Paki-sulat na lang sa tissue!” before clarifying, “But if you do have requests, ‘wag na lang because we will be singing all the songs you like.”
Reflecting on how their dynamic has evolved over the years in preparation for big shows like this, Marasigan shared, “It’s easier these days, it’s more relaxed.”
Buendia echoed this sentiment, saying, “We learned to enjoy—even though it has been 30 years since we have been playing together. Every day is a new day. Every show is a new show and is still very surprising.”
For the Eraserheads, performing for their Filipino fans overseas holds a special meaning.
“The fact that they have not been home for a while, iba yung sabik nila to hear stuff about the Philippines. I’d like to think that the songs of the Heads, they like to connect to it. It kinda holds something special, so every time we perform it on stage, we share the joy,” Zabala explained.
Buendia added: “For sure, it’s gonna be a nostalgic night, but we also want to see new fans out there—young fans that haven’t seen us perform before. So, it’s gonna be an exciting night.”
Lead guitarist Marcus Adoro also spoke about the significance of bringing a piece of home to Filipinos abroad, saying, “It’s always a warm feeling because events like this are a chance for the Philippines to congregate and soak in the music.”
Eraserheads is also offering a special treat for their fans with exclusive merchandise, including T-shirts, caps, and jackets. Fans can also experience the Huling El Bimbo soundcheck through platinum ticket package.
“It’s for some fans to watch the actual soundcheck, and then we will be playing some deep cuts that are not part of the set. It’s gonna be fun, and we are signing,” Marasigan shared.
Adding to the excitement, a special lottery pop-up performance will take place at a cinema screening of Eraserheads: Combo on the Run, their highly anticipated documentary. “We don’t know either! We are just gonna play. Pag sinwerte kayo, you’ll experience a 4D cinematic experience—nandun talaga kami to play some songs for you,” Buendia teased.
