K-pop group GOT7 makes much-awaited comeback with 'Winter Heptagon'

Composed of nine tracks, the record marks the group's first new music in nearly three years and their first release under a partnership with major Korean label Kakao Entertainment.

"Winter Heptagon" aims to showcase the septet's "musical evolution and maturity," with all members actively contributing to the EP's creative process, Kakao said in a press release.  

The EP is fronted by "Python," produced by member BamBam. The single "features pop melodies combined with hip-hop beats, portraying an inescapable fate between those who are meant to be together," Kakao said.

All the songs on the EP feature at least one or two members credited as lyricists or composers. Meanwhile, for the fan song "Yours Truly," composed by the group's leader Jay B, all seven members collaborated on the lyrics.

Launched by JYP Entertainment in 2014, GOT7 — which also includes Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae and Yugyeom — quickly gained a massive international following with their songs that typically blend hip-hop and R&B, complemented by powerful live performances. The group's notable singles include "Just Right," "Hard Carry" and "You Calling My Name," among others.

In 2021, the septet parted ways with JYP following the expiration of their seven-year contracts. Despite no longer being bound by a single agency, the members, who have also pursued solo careers, have remained committed to staying together as a group, making their comeback in May 2022 with a self-titled EP.

For this comeback with "Winter Heptagon," the group is set to promote on South Korean music shows, and hold their two-day "Nestfest" concert in Seoul on February 1 and 2.

BamBam and Jay B are also scheduled to return to the Philippines in the coming months, with BamBam joining the lineup for Waterbomb Manila in February and Jay B holding a solo concert in March.
