Cruel Stepmother of Roberta in Roberta
One of the most classic villains in Philippine storytelling, Bella’s cruel stepmother to child Roberta remains a standout example of her ability to embody being the kontrabida. The film, which starred child actors Tessie Agana and Boy Alano, became a box-office success and reportedly helped save Sampaguita Pictures from financial ruin after a devastating fire in 1950.
Bella’s performance cemented her image as the industry’s wicked stepmother.

Donya Hershey Ferrer in Trudis Liit
In this classic drama, Bella portrayed the domineering Doña Hershey Ferrer, the intimidating stepmother to the titular character played by Vilma Santos. Once again, she delivered a performance that reinforced her reputation as the industry’s go-to actress for cruel matriarch roles.
Decades later, she reprised Hershey in the television adaptation of Trudis Liit, this time as a less intimidating grandmother to then child star Jillian Ward.
