MANILA — JM de Guzman opened up about the personal impact of portraying "Pilipinas Got Talent" Season 7 winner Cardong Trumpo in an upcoming episode of "Maalaala Mo Kaya," calling the experience “deeply fulfilling” and inspiring because of Trumpo’s unwavering positivity, resilience, and love for family.
In "Showtime Online U" on Thursday, the Kapamilya actor shared his experience playing Cardong Trumpo.
"Sobang fulfilled ako kasi ang dami kong natutunanan sa paggawa ng buhay ni Tatay Cardo. And kapag makita mo lang siya sa personal, kahit hindi mo gawin ang buhay niya, mai-inspire ka na sa kanya. Lalo na 'yung ginawa ko ang buhay niya, sobrang inspiring talaga," de Guzman said.
Asked what he learned from Cardong Trumpo's life, de Guzman replied: "'Yung positive outlook niya sa buhay na kahit anong dumating sa kanyang delubyo o hirap, nadadaanan niya with grace and humility."
"Siguro 'yung childhood trauma ay kailangan nating i-embrace. Yakapin na lang na nandiyan talaga and you can heal from it," he added.
De Guzman also shared that he was really touched with Cardong Trumpo's love for his wife.
"Yung love niya sa wife niya, 'yung passion niya sa pagtuturumpo, 'yung love niya sa pamilya, gagawin niya talaga lahat para sa pamilya niya," de Guzman said.
To portray Cardong Trumpo, de Guzman admitted that he watched some of the videos of the "PGT" grand winner as part of his preparation.
Asked if he and Cardong Trumpo have similarities, the actor replied: "Siguro 'yung hindi naggi-give up kapag may struggle sa buhay. 'Yung pagka-positive. Kung paano mo titingnan na positive 'yung nangyayari sa iyong negatibo.
