Counting being part of the initial Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition this year as one of the biggest plot twists in his career, Dustin Yu shared that he did not expect to receive another big blessing right after leaving the PBB house. The actor and entrepreneur talked about how he felt being offered a role in Shake, Rattle, & Roll: Evil Origins, which marks his second time to be part of Regal Entertainment’s iconic horror anthology franchise.
“Paglabas ko ng PBB, ito na talaga yung bumungad sa akin na balita. Sabi sa akin, ‘O, may movie ka na Shake, Rattle, & Roll. Sabi ko, ‘Wow!’ Nandun pa ako sa PBB nun, nasa labas ako ng bahay ni Kuya. Tapos the next day, sinabi sa akin ipapasok daw sa MMFF. So parang dumagdag yung excitement ko kasi first time ko nga ito sa MMFF,” he said during his solo presscon for Shake, Rattle, & Roll Evil Origins.

Dustin got his first experience doing horror as part of the cast of Shake, Rattle, & Roll Extreme in 2023 which was the year that the horror trilogy was not part of the Metro Manila Film Festival. Dustin also admitted that his role in that project was not a major one.
“Nag-Shake, Rattle, & Roll na ako two years ago. So ang role ko dun before is naging zombie ako. This time, sobrang layo niya from my role before kasi ito parang may character talaga, mararamdaman mo yung puso ng character ko. Thank you sa Regal sa pagbuo ng character ko. Maraming, maraming salamat. Natutuwa ako habang binabasa ko at tini-take yung Shake, Rattle, & Roll. Na-realize ko nga na ang horror ay mahirap pala gawin. Kasi may drama, in a way may parang light na eksena tapos may pagka-thriller siya. Mahirap siya kasi ipapakita mo lahat ng emosyon eh. Tapos kailangan mo matakot,” he explained
In his episode this year, Dustin plays the role of aswang hunter Riel, who is the younger brother of Richard Gutierrez’s character Rosdan. “Siguro ang masasabi ko lang ay si Riel is very well connected sa mga kasama ko sa movie, with kuya Richard, Ms. Ivana Alawi, kay Matt Lozano. So well connected yung character ko sa lahat dun sa storya so nakakatuwa,” he added.
In terms of the technical side of the production, Dustin admitted he got even more impressed with their Shake, Rattle, & Roll team.
“Sabi ko sa production last time, grabe talaga yung upgrade ng shooting namin this time around. Nung first time ko mag-Shake, Rattle & Roll, grabe naman na din yung na-experience ko dun. Pero this time around, parang dinoble o triniple nila yung production talaga. Un talaga yung napansin ko. Yung marketing, yung creativity, yung bawat eksena namin pinag-aaralan talaga namin. Mas naging collaborative kami ngayon. Siguro dahil part na rin ako ng lead, siguro mas naging involved ako this time with my co-actors, sila kuya Richard, si Ms. Ivana, and also to direk. In a way mas napasok ko yung sarili ko sa movie na ito, mas pinaghandaan ko, mas may pressure,” he said.
