Nadine Lustre revealed that she is playing a beauty queen in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival film, Call Me Mother.
In an interview on TFC's Are You G?, the actress shared that she underwent pageant training for her role in the film.
"I've done a lot of research when it comes to being a beauty queen. Research and I've done a few days of training, because my character in the film is a beauty queen and it's very important for me to know about the industry and about my character as well," she shared.
Part of her preparation also involved fitness training, since her character competes in pageants. "A lot of preparations too when it comes to fitness because eventually, you know, in the film I would have scenes wherein I am actually competing," she said.
Nadine also admitted that maintaining the poise of a beauty queen has been one of the most challenging aspects of the role.
"I would say the trickiest part of my role is that every time I'm on set or every time we're filming or shooting a scene, my posture needs to be different, and the thing is I'm used to... I'm hunched all the time. But in the movie, I have to be upright and beauty queen posture, so it's kind of tricky. It's very challenging because I always have to remember," she said.
Back in August, Viva Artists Agency shared a snapshot of Nadine undergoing pageant training.
Call Me Mother serves as the reunion project of Nadine and Vice Ganda, ten years after they worked together on Beauty and the Bestie in the 2015 MMFF.
In an episode of It's Showtime last July, Nadine told Vice how ecstatic she was to work again with him. "I'm so, so excited na makatrabaho ka ulit after 10 years. I already know that this reunion will be very, very special,” she remarked.
Call Me Mother is co-produced by ABS-CBN Film Productions Inc., The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Communications Inc.
Written by Daisy G. Cayanan, Daniel S. Saniana, and Jun Robles Lana, the film has the following synopsis, as revealed during the Grand Launch of the 51st MMFF held at the Glorietta Palm Drive Activity Center in Makati on July 8.:
"Fabulous single queer mother, Twinkle, plans on surprising her loving adoptive son, Angel, with a Disneyland trip by finalizing his adoption papers – if and only if nobody claims Angel within three months. But the unexpected arrival of Mara starts to complicate their peaceful life.
Shaken up by Mara’s arrival, Twinkle goes the extra mile to prove that she is a caring and capable mother to Angel – resulting in over-the-top hilarious means to assure Mara that Angel is already in good loving hands.
As the end of the three-month adoption process comes to a close, a surprising and threatening bond between Mara and Angel forms. Can Twinkle prove that motherhood lies not in biology, but in profound, unwavering devotion?"
