Kapamilya actor Enrique Gil is set to make his much-awaited comeback at Metro Manila Film Festival this year with the horror film, Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital. This would be the actor’s first MMFF film after more than a decade since he starred in the 2012 film, The Strangers.

The film is a Filipino adaptation of the South Korean box office hit Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, which was based on an actual psychiatric hospital located in Gwangju-si.

Sitting down with PUSH, Enrique shared how he was already set on acting in the film as he is a huge fan of the horror genre. However, it was how the story would unfold which made him even more interested.

“First of all, I’m a fan of horror so when I heard the script–– basta horror, I’m interested already. When we thought about doing the meta style na we’re playing us ourselves–– it’ll be interesting to play myself and not a character that’s just made up,” he shared.

“I’ve never done it before so it’s very interesting to be able to shoot it on our own, with our own cameras–– kami mag shoot ourselves very meta,” he added.

Enrique added how excited he is for the audience to see the film as it would be the first of its kind to screen in the country.

“It’s never been done before in Philippine cinema so definitely, I really wanted to do it even more. To shoot it in a haunted place, sabi ko oh my gosh,” he added.

Joining him in the film are actors and vloggers such as Jane De Leon, Alexa Miro, Rob Gomez, beauty queen MJ Lastimosa, alongside tarot reader Raf Pineda and content creator Ryan “Zarckaroo” Azurin. Being one of the producers of the film, Enrique shared the thought process when selecting the cast.

“They are at the point they all want to do something different, something exciting, something interesting, and something challenging. I thought that this was the perfect cast. They all bring a different character to the table that I think as a whole, it just completes the story,” he explained.

The film will be exploring the infamous Xinglin Hospital–– known to be one of the most haunted places in Southeast Asia.

Strange Frequencies: Silent Killer Hospital will start screening in cinemas nationwide this coming December 25 alongside several other official MMFF entries.
