Jennie of BLACKPINK shared the inspiration behind her look for the 2025 Met Gala.
In an interview with Vogue, the K-pop star arrived in a custom ensemble by Chanel. "I'm wearing a custom-Chanel, tailored black jumpsuit inside and a very beautiful sculptural overskirt and everything was inspired by the '20s and the '30s of the Coco Chanel runways," she relayed. "And I just feel so good with the hat and everything."
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, this year's theme for the Met Gala was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." As previously announced by Vogue, the theme explores "the role of sartorial style in forming Black identities, focusing on the emergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy."
When asked how she interpreted the theme, Jennie explained: "I do my best and do my research and actually it was wonderful working with the Chanel team because coming from Coco Chanel's legacy and history, it had everything to do with what we wanted to represent," she stated.
In the same interview, Jennie was asked what fans can expect on the upcoming BLACKPINK tour which is set to happen this year.
"It's BLACKPINK in your area back again and I can't be the one spoiling everything but it's gonna be good and we can't wait to meet our fans," she relayed.
Last April, Jennie staged her first solo performance at Coachella. "From starting OA (her agency) to my album Ruby and my first show: Ruby Experience to Coachella. A new chapter has just opened up for me and I'll keep moving forward. To those who waited and supported me through out all if**k***loveyou," she posted on her Instagram page as she marked this new milestone in her career.
Back in March, she was honored with the Global Force Award at the Billboard Women in Music 2025 event.
In a heartfelt acceptance speech, Jennie expressed deep gratitude to her fans, her group, and the women in the industry who continue to inspire her.
"Words cannot express how thankful I am," she said in her speech as featured in Billboard's clip.
Jennie dedicated the award to women across the creative and entertainment fields, emphasizing the power of unity.
"This award is a tribute to every woman who dares to dream, and create, and shape the world with her vision," she said. "Women are a powerful force and when we come together, we can uplift each other with every step."
