Kapamilya star Vice Ganda shared this statement with a contestant in one of the segments of the noontime variety program, It’s Showtime. While it was directed towards the contestant, his words resonated with thousands of people who watched it as well.
Vice has been vocal about helping yourself first before trying to help other people. During the segment that aired a couple of years ago, Vice reminded the contestant to think of themself first, as it’s important in spreading love.

“Hindi ka magkakaroon ng kapangyarihan na makatulong sa ibang tao kung ang sarili mo ay hindi mo natutulungan–– hindi mo sila mapapalakas kung ikaw ay mahina. Let’s all start from ourselves, for ourselves,” he shared.
Vice then shared the life of an OFW as an example of his case–– spending several years outside the country and away from their family.
“Maraming tao napa asenso nila yung ibang tao pero yung sarili nila, gumising sila, anong nangyari sa akin? Yun ang problema ng mga breadwinners,” he expressed.
“Yung pagod na pagod na silang OFW sila pero after 50 years nilang nasa America or nasa ibang bansa, parang anong nangyari sa akin? Bakit wala pa rin akong ipon? Kasi lahat ng inipon nila, pinadala nila at pinaghatihatian ng mga gusto nilang tulungan,” he added.
For the Kapamilya star, loving and prioritizing yourself before others isn’t a selfish act but rather something that should be the norm.
“Help yourself first and it’s not being selfish. It’s not selfish–– it’s self-full… Hindi masama yun na unahin mo yung sarili mo tapos bitbitin mo yung ibang mahal mo sa buhay,” he ended.
Vice's statement has gone viral on various social media platforms as netizens shared their opinions about it. Fans of the Kapamilya actor agreed with his statement and expressed how important self-love is.
While being able to help others is beneficial for the community, loving and helping yourself out is also just as important–– something Vice has reminded the Madlang People.
