The Nation’s Girl Group BINI was formally introduced as the newest ambassador of the Department of Tourism.
The members met with Tourism Secretary Maria Bernardita “Dita” Angara-Mathay on Friday morning in Makati City. During the courtesy call, the group introduced themselves to the tourism chief and even tossed initial ideas for the collaboration.
“We made the right choice,” Angara-Mathay said in an interview. “I am so happy. They have so many ideas. Sometimes the young people can direct a whole generation, whole bureaucracy to go a certain direction — which will connect with the larger population. They are delightful and talented people.”
According to BINI member Jhoanna Robles, the group is eager to share their own ideas in further promoting the Philippines through the partnership.
“Sobrang dami namin gusto i-suggest. Mag-meeting muna kami. 'Yan ang special sa BINI. We are from eight different provinces. Nasimulan na namin before and now we are grateful we have the support of the government. Mas malaki na,” she explained.
The Department of Tourism also highlighted that BINI’s projects and achievements have already embodied the role of tourism ambassadors long before the official partnership.
“We recognize the power of BINI and the influence that they have in bringing viewers not only in the Philippines but abroad as well. They are ambassadors already with what they are doing, what they are wearing with the traditional outfits. It would be amiss for the government if we do not recognize the pride,” Assistant Secretary Ren Sapitan said.
More than just tourism ambassadors, the Department of Tourism described BINI as “Ambassadors to the Philippines,” as they hope to collaborate with the group not only on projects that promote destinations but also the country’s fashion, food, sports, and other aspects of Filipino culture.
“Nation’s Girl Group for us is representing the Philippines the best way we can. Not just as artists but as human beings. Our goal is to represent the Philippines worldwide and be good role models,” BINI’s Mikha Lim said.
