Drag artist Misua, who was set to appear in the upcoming fourth season of the competition series "Drag Race Philippines," has died, the show's production company announced Friday.
The cause of death was not immediately clear, but World of Wonder (WOW) said Misua "passed away in her sleep" as production for the season was still underway.
"We are heartbroken to share that Misua, a talented Queen set to appear on season four of Drag Race Philippines passed away in her sleep the morning of April 2," WOW wrote in a Facebook post.
"She brought light, artistry, and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed."
The company said it paused production "to care for and support our cast and crew during this incredibly difficult time."
"Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and all who loved her," WOW said, adding that it was in contact with Misua's family, who have requested privacy.
The production team opened the casting call for the fourth season in January, with the premiere date yet to be announced.
Debuting in 2022 as a local franchise of the hit American series "RuPaul's Drag Race," "Drag Race Philippines" has helped popularize the art of drag in the country, with many contestants using the show as a springboard for careers in entertainment and platform for their advocacies.
Past winners include Precious Paula Nicole, Captivating Katkat and Maxie Andreison.
Last year, "Drag Race Philippines" also aired a spin-off, "Slaysian Royale," in which Filipino drag queens competed against Asian contestants from other "Drag Race" franchises, with homegrown talent Brigiding emerging as the winner.
