The production company run by celebrity couple Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli clarified Wednesday that a viral video showing the superstar singer asking for votes in the next elections was "meant purely for fun," suggesting she will not be running for public office.
A video of the "Tala" hitmaker recently made the rounds on social media, showing her at an outdoor event where she told the crowd: "Maraming salamat po, iboto niyo po ako sa susunod na eleksyon."
The video led some to speculate that Geronimo was “gearing up for the next election, or at least testing the waters,” prompting G Productions to issue a response.
"The video came from a live event where, as part of her closing spiel, Sarah playfully asked the audience to vote for her in the next election," G Productions explained in a statement on social media.
"It was a lighthearted moment meant purely for fun and crowd interaction," the company said.
The company added that Geronimo "is exactly where she wants to be — on stage, doing what she loves, and inspiring people through her talent and artistry."
"We kindly ask everyone to enjoy the moment for what it was and resist adding any political color to an onstage joke," it said.
