Nation’s girl group BINI was featured in the Los Angeles Times ahead of their much-anticipated debut at Coachella this weekend.

In the interview, the eight-member group reflected on the significance of becoming the first OPM act to perform at one of the world’s most influential music festivals.

“For Coachella, we became more intentional with everything — the music, the arrangements, we’re involved,” BINI Jhoanna said of their preparations for the festival.

She added, “It’s our first time here, it’s a much bigger audience, so we want to make an impression and prove that Filipinos deserve to be on that stage.”

As per LA Times, BINI “takes care with its stages as a platform for Filipino culture — it champions local fashion designers in stage outfits, and its backup dancers are from elite troupes in the Philippines” while introducing to the Coachella audience “where they come from.”

BINI Aiah and Colet also expressed that being named as the first OPM group to perform on one of the biggest music stages comes with a deeper sense of purpose.

“It’s not the first time that a Filipino act has been able to step on a global stage,” Aiah said. “But we do feel that sense of responsibility as well, especially for Coachella.”

Colet went on: “It’s a great responsibility for us. Because we want to open the door to more Filipino art.”

Maloi, meanwhile, described the experience as both a “big deal” and “nerve-racking” as Coachella is “a festival for people who really love music, and want to discover new music.”

The group also recalled the moment they learned they had been included in this year’s lineup.

“We were at an event in the Philippines, and then I found out from a fan on X,” BINI Stacey said. “I was shocked. At first, I didn’t believe it, because I thought it was just a joke. But when I messaged our group chat, we found out that it’s true, we are performing for Coachella. It was a surprise from the management. I think history was made.”

Just a day before their set, the group has been fully immersed in rehearsals for their performance on the Mojave Stage on April 10 (U.S. time), where they will share the lineup with international acts such as Central Cee, Blood Orange, Ethel Cain, Moby, Devo, Slayyyter, and Novasol, among others.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe, BINI’s set will run for 42 minutes straight, with no breaks in between. The group is also set to debut their new single “Blush,” which is part of their newly released EP Signals.

Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi shared his excitement after watching the group’s rehearsals, praising their energy, production, and preparation.

“I’m so excited… Hindi pa sila naka makeup, but the energy was there… I think we’ll have a great show. The girls, pay off na lahat ng trabaho nila. Yung areglo is great, the sequencing of the songs, the costumes [are] wonderful, the choreography,” he expressed.

Jhoanna echoed the sentiments, noting how their full run-through helped them feel more prepared for the big day.

“Honestly, we’re more confident ngayon kasi ito nga nakapag full run na kami with costumes and everything… Siguro ang maninibago nalang kami sa weather, sa stage mismo and sa crowd–– yun nalang yung iisipin namin,” Jhoanna shared. “But overall, the choreographies and the vocals hopefully talagang ok na kami–– solid na.”
