Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan has been barred from performing at one of Rio de Janeiro’s biggest music events after pro football player Jorginho Frello said that the singer’s security team allegedly spoke in a manner that was ‘extremely aggressive’ towards his wife Catherine Harding and their 11-year-old daughter when they were dining at a hotel in São Paulo for Lollapalooza Brasil.
In his Instagram story, Jorginho detailed the alleged incident.

“I went through a very upsetting situation with my family earlier today. My wife is in São Paulo for Lollapalooza Brasil. This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited. She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire,” Jorginho wrote pertaining to the artist as Chappell.
“By coincidence, they're staying at the same hotel as this artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognized her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her,” he continued.
“And the worst part is she didn't even approach her,” he added. “She simply walked past the singer's table, looked to confirm it was her, smiled, and went back to sit with her mum. She didn't say anything, didn't ask for anything.”

Jorginho then alleged that a security guard approached their table shortly after.
“a large security guard came over to their table while they were still having breakfast and began speaking in an extremely aggressive manner to both my wife and my daughter, saying that she shouldn't allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people,” he relayed.
“Honestly, I don't know at what point simply walking past a table and looking to see if someone is there can be considered harassment,” he added, claiming the security “even said he would file a complaint against them with the hotel, while my 11-year-old daughter was sitting there in tears.”
“My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot,” he maintained.
Jorginho ended his post by criticizing what he described as the singer’s treatment of fans, while referencing his own experience, writing: “I've lived with football, public exposure, and well-known people for many years, and I understand very well what respect and boundaries are. What happened there was not that. It was just a child admiring someone.”
He then directly tagged Chappell and added in all capital letters: “WITHOUT YOUR FANS, YOU WOULD BE NOTHING. AND TO THE FANS, SHE DOES NOT DESERVE YOUR AFFECTION.”
In response, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce that the singer would no longer be welcome at the city’s Todo Mundo no Rio festival, which will be headlined by Shakira this year.
“I want to say that as long as I'm in charge of our city - this girl @ChappellRoan will never perform at Todo Mundo no Rio! I doubt Shakira @shakira @Shakira_Brasil would do that! Besides, @FrelloJorginho your little one is already a guest of honor of the organization in May!” the mayor wrote, as translated by the platform.
Jorginho responded to the mayor’s post with two red heart emojis.
Todo Mundo no Rio, which translates to “Everyone in Rio,” is a series of free international music events staged at Copacabana Beach every May. The festival, backed by the city government and private sponsors, aims to boost tourism and the local economy.
Following the incident, reactions online have been divided. Some netizens called for a more thorough review of the alleged incident, noting that both sides should clarify details, especially given that a child was involved. Others questioned the mayor’s decision to bar Chappell from the festival, urging officials to verify the situation before taking further action.
As of writing, Chappell has not publicly responded to the allegations or the mayor’s statement.
