US-based Filipino content creator Mama Lulu earned praise from netizens after openly sharing her views on accepting and loving her LGBTQIA+ children while remaining firm in her religious faith.
The 68-year-old mother has five children, two of whom are part of the LGBTQIA+ community – her lesbian daughter Donnabelle, whom she fondly calls “Lesbean,” and her gay son Oliver or “Olly,” who frequently appears in their family’s social media content.
Her statements came amid renewed online conversations about religion, gender identity, and sexuality in recent weeks. In a Facebook video uploaded on February 17, Olly asked his mother how she was able to embrace her gay son and lesbian daughter despite religious beliefs that are often seen as conflicting with LGBTQIA+ identities.
In her response, Mama Lulu stressed that her relationship with God is deeply personal and guided by empathy.

“First of all, ang relationship ko sa Diyos ay very personal. Ang spiritual connection ko sa Diyos, hindi ko nakukuha sa libro. Hindi ko nakukuha sa ibang tao, ito ay nasa puso ko at sarili kong damdamin. Binabase ko ang trato ko sa ibang tao kung paano gusto ko ring tratuhin ako sa buong buhay ko.”
She explained that her understanding of people comes from lived experience, noting that everyone she has encountered from the LGBTQIA+ community has shown kindness and sincerity.
“Lahat ng na-meet ko na mga gay, lesbian, trans, lahat sila mababait na tao. Wala akong nakikitang masama sa kalooban nila. Nabubuhay sila sa kung saan sila masaya at kung saan sila nagmamahal.”
“To make it short, they are just human beings,” she added.
Mama Lulu also addressed critics who argue that accepting LGBTQIA+ individuals contradicts religious teachings. She said such arguments fail to recognize the core of human connection.
“Maraming magsasabi diyan, ‘Mama Lulu mali pa rin ‘yan’. Hindi dapat ikumpara ang mga LGBTQ sa mga masasamang mga tao na gumagawa ng hindi kabutihan, ng masasama. Kasi kung pag-iisipan lang natin at tatanggalin natin ang lahat ng relihiyosong paniniwala natin, ano nga ba talaga ang kasalanan ng mga lesbian o mga gay? Nagmamahal lang sila ng kapwa nila.”

“Ako rin naman, ikaw, nagmamahal ka rin. Tao lang tayong lahat. Wala silang sinasaktang kahit sino,” she emphasized.
She went on to speak about transgender people who are often questioned for changing their appearance, names, or pronouns, pointing out that change is a universal part of life.
“Lahat naman tayo may gusto sa buhay. Lahat tayo nagbabago. Plastic surgery, pagma-make up, pagkukulay ng buhok...lahat ng tao gumagawa niyan mapa-babae o lalaki.”
“Binabago pa raw ang pangalan, binabago pa ang pronouns. Eh ano ngayon? Yung mga artista nga diyan ang dami-daming stage name. Yung ibang tao naman diyan, ang daming nicknames na kung ano-ano.”
While acknowledging that not everyone would agree with her views, Mama Lulu said she remains firm in what she wants to leave behind.
“At the end of the day, hindi ko makukumbinsi lahat ng tao na maging katulad ko ang pag-iisip. Pero isa lang ang gusto kong iwan dito sa buong mundo, ang pagmamahal. Kahit hindi ko man kayo kilala, gusto ko lang iparamdam sa inyo ang pagmamahal.”
“Because God is love. Bonus na lang na nagkaroon ako ng anak na lesbian at gay kasi pinalawak nila ang pag-iisip ko at pagmamahal sa LGBTQ. Pinalawak nila ang pag-unawa ko sa kapwa.”
She ended her message on a personal note, sharing how her children shaped her confidence and strength. Mama Lulu said that without her gay son, she would not have learned how to dress well and carry herself confidently in public, and without her lesbian daughter, she would not have developed the courage she now possesses.
Her statements were met with overwhelming support from netizens, many of whom said how deeply they resonated with her words.

Olly also responded to critics in the comments section, defending his mother and writing, “She’s a parent, walang condition ang pagmamahal niya.”

Earlier this year, she delighted fans after sharing her excitement over securing concert tickets for the upcoming world tour of the South Korean boy group, BTS. She also shared her recent adventure during a surprise trip to the Philippines in October 2025, her first visit to the country in 18 years, gifted by her children.
Mama Lulu rose to online popularity alongside Olly and her other children through their relatable family exchanges and trademark humor. In December 2022, one of her viral TikTok videos was featured in the music video of “Break My Soul” by Beyoncé, further cementing her presence on the social media stage.
