Charo Santos recently opened up what inspired her to join TikTok.
In an interview with Ogie in his latest YouTube vlog, the actress said she wanted to explore the world of social media as someone who grew up in traditional television.
"Nung una I was apprehensive. Alam mo naman galing ako sa traditional media, di ba? Linear programming, may oras lahat. But I wanted to discover social media and discovering social media is not just like scrolling or lurker ka lang, di ba? Sige nga, pasukin ko 'yung mundo [ng social media]," she recounted.
The Kapamilya executive added that she wanted to evolve along with the entertainment industry in the digital era.
"Tapos sabi ko safe space naman, kasi una may fear eh, may takot. Parang, naku may bashing, di ba? 'Yun talaga ang takot ko. Pero sabi ko 'pag hindi ko ito pinasok, nasa world of entertainment ako, nage-evolve ang mga platforms. Gusto kong malaman, gusto kong ma-experience. There's nothing like being in it, di ba?" she remarked. "Tapos gusto ko talagang mag-experiment. 'Yung sense of curiosity ko."
The actress also shared that she pushed herself to try various TikTok trends. "Ano to, magde-dear Charo lang ba ako? Magi-give lang ba ako ng advice? Aba, sumayaw na ako, okay naman. Aba, nag lip sync ako, okay naman. Ine-enjoy ko. Tapos sabi ko aba, mag-acting piece nga ako dito, parang short video, okay din naman. Na-engganyo na talaga ako," she said.
Charo has 532,000 followers on TikTok to date.
In a previous interview with Korina Sanchez on Korina Interviews, Charo emphasized the importance of adapting and continuing to learn in today's fast-changing media environment.
"You always have to adapt to the changes as they come," she stated.
She underscored how curiosity remains essential in a world that is constantly evolving.
"Di ba the world is not dull and boring, and it doesn't stay in this one singular situation, hindi ganun eh. It is forever evolving, 'pag hindi ka sumabay at hindi ka natutong sumabay, maaari kang maiwan," she remarked.
Charo also highlighted the lifelong value of learning, regardless of age or stage in life.
"I think wanting to learn and the thirst for knowledge should always be there. Dapat lagi mong hanapin na ano ang matutunan ko dito. Ang ma-aadvice ko is mag-aral nang mag-aral nang mag-aral. Maging bukas sa oportunidad na pini-present sa atin ng buhay. Technology is changing the landscape and it's going fast, ang bilis," she stated.
