Queen of All Media Kris Aquino took to social media on February 12 to share candid updates about her health, her upcoming podcast, and how she is supporting her son Bimby Yap as he prepares to enter the entertainment industry.
On Instagram, Kris made it clear that while she fully supports her son’s showbiz aspirations, she does not see herself taking on the role of being his manager.
“I like being a mama, I couldn't see myself being a 'mamager'… Bimb is still undergoing his training including a few skills that may surprise you, and I’m leaving his career planning to someone I trust because he has integrity, a solid home life, and he and his beautiful wife cared enough to invite my son over to their home to meet their children and that reassured me that Bimb will be treated like family,” Kris said.
Although she chose not to name the person who will be guiding Bimby’s career, she revealed that there is openness to collaborating with another group for his music pursuits: “They were also flexible about sharing Bimb with another group as far as music is concerned.”
Kris likewise promised followers that she would refrain from interfering in her son’s professional decisions.
“Please use this post as your receipt. I promise that i will only make pakialam with the overall styling of my son. All other decisions it will be up to Bimb and his manager Titos and Tita,” she added.
Bimby’s preparations for showbiz has been in motion for some time. Last year, Cornerstone Entertainment shared glimpses of his vocal training under award-winning singer-songwriter and vocal coach Thor Dulay. In 2023, he was also spotted with Cornerstone executives and his mom’s former co-host Boy Abunda, who served as his guardian while Kris was abroad for medical treatment. Kris had previously hinted at her son’s plans to work in the industry.
Aside from Bimby’s career, Kris also offered an update on her much-anticipated on-cam podcast, which she hopes to launch later this year.
“I’ll be coproducing my oncam podcast and hopefully 5 weeks after the last of my stitches are removed i’ll start producing 'immunity cells' because right now I am severely immunocompromised,” she expressed.
As she prepares to celebrate her 55th birthday this Valentine’s Day, Kris expressed gratitude and optimism about her recovery. She recently moved into her new home after spending six weeks in the hospital.
“I’m not allowed to have fresh flowers, but i’m allowed balloons which i’ve always loved. I’m not yet allowed to walk outside until 4 weeks after my stitches are removed, but i’m now able to walk unaided and seldom do I ask for my wheelchair,” Kris shared.
Turning 55, Kris reflected on milestones she still hopes to reach: “I’m so grateful to reach 55. I am now praying to reach 60 so I’ll have both a PWD (Person With Disability) and Senior Citizen’s Card. So many online establishments don’t accept the PWD as a valid government issued ID. I never learned how to drive. I only have my passport.”
