MANILA -- They probably have everything and can do anything at their age, but screen icons Charo Santos and Boots Anson have opted to continue working.
In the latest vlog of Ogie Diaz, the lead stars of "Until She Remembers" shared their thoughts on still being active in acting.
"Hindi naman dahil may gusto kaming patunayan. I don't think 'yun ang rason kung bakit active pa kami," Santos said. "Ako I'm speaking for myself. I'm just so curious about life, about what it has to offer. Kung may bagong experiences pa diyan, I'm ready. 'Yun siguro ang zest ko for life, 'yung passion ko for learning new things. 'Yan mas 'yan ang motivation ko. For as long as there's a mountain to climb, let's go climb the mountain, hindi ba?"
(It’s not because we want to prove something. I don’t think that’s the reason why we’re still active. I’m speaking for myself. I’m just so curious about life, about what it has to offer. If there are new experiences out there, I’m ready. Maybe that’s my zest for life, my passion for learning new things, that’s my motivation. As long as there’s a mountain to climb, let’s go climb the mountain, right?)

When asked if they also fear that they won't be receiving offers because of their age, Anson said: "Sumasagi sa isip ko 'yon. Pero siguro ang grasya, ang regalo ng Panginoon, hindi lang pag-aartista ang inatupag namin, not solely that. Of course bread and butter 'yon, hindi ba? Ninety percent siguro ng experience namin o success, doon. Pero marami pang avenues sa corporate life, civic life, religious advocacies. Pareho kami ni Charo, marami pa kaming inatupag at binigyan ng attention. Kaya kahit mawala ang assignment ay ang dami pa naming pinagkakaabalahan at marami kaming binibigyan ng halaga."
(That crosses my mind. But maybe it’s the grace, the gift of the Lord, that we didn’t only engage in being actors, not solely, because of course that’s the bread and butter, right? Ninety percent maybe of our experience or success is there. But there are still many avenues in corporate life, civic life, religious advocacies. Charo and I, we both still have many things we engage in and give attention to. So even if there's no longer assignment, there’s still so much we’re occupied with, and there’s a lot we give value to.)
Anson added: "Kung ang hanap namin ay self-affirmation, 'yung feeling na magaling ka or feeling na wanted ka. Kasi ang pinakamasakit 'yung feeling na rejected ka na hindi ka na kailangan, na you are no longer relevant. But we get that from other fields na pinagtrabahuan namin. So siyempre sino ba ang ayaw gumawa nang gumawa ng pelikula? Ako iniisip ko rin 'yung edad ko, hindi na rin siguro kaya I just have to slow down. So when chances like this 'Until She Remembers' aba grab agad kasi it's an opportunity to stretch my limits kahit matanda na ako, to outdo myself, not to outdo anybody else but myself."
(If what we are looking for is self-affirmation, the feeling that you are good or the feeling that you are wanted. Because the most painful is the feeling that you are rejected, that you are no longer needed, that you are no longer relevant. But we get that from other fields that we have worked in. So of course, who wouldn’t want to make a movie? I also think about my age, maybe I can’t do it anymore, so I just have to slow down. So when chances like this, ‘Until She Remembers,’ come, of course I grab them immediately. Because it’s an opportunity to stretch my limits, even though I am old, to outdo myself, not to outdo anybody else but myself.)
For her part, Santos admitted that the fear also crosses her mind, but said that there are new things that she can do.
