Eugene Domingo shared that she has always wanted to focus on building her career in the Philippines rather than venturing outside the country.
In an interview with Boy Abunda, the actress was asked if she had ever set her sights on Hollywood, to which she responded: "To be honest, hindi na kasama ko sa mga plano ko, even I was younger to be in Hollywood or to have a career outside of my country. I just really love theater when I was younger."
Eugene also shared her thoughts on whether Filipinos can make it to the Oscars. She highlighted: "Kung tayo makakapasok sa Oscars, hindi imposible. Kailangan lang natin ng pera at tsaka support ng gobyerno."
In the same interview, Eugene discussed how she usually prepares for her acting projects. "My preparation as an actor is very simple. I read the script and it's gut feel. I read it as an audience. If I see the movie, how will I feel it? What is the connection with me? If the script is beautiful, naiyak ako, tumawa ako, pumalakpak ako, nagalingan ako, then I will be in this movie, whatever the role is," she said.
She was also asked if there are roles that she will not accept. She pointed out: "Ayaw ko ng role na parang walang, alam mo 'yung walang sustansya, at tsaka walang mensahe. I mean, before the role I am really concerned about the message of the film. Whether it's big, whether it's small, it has to say something."
Eugene recently starred in the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival entery Unmarry. She also headlined the Netflix film Kontrabida Academy last year. The actress is set to star this year in the movie Sisa.
In an interview with Boy Abunda for PhilStar Global in 2022, Eugene shared how she decides on what acting projects to pursue.
"Sometimes, I'm really hungry for mainstream movies or indie. So, I satisfy my hunger by feeling what is my hunger now. I try to balance so as not to get tired at what I do. I also go back to my roots, which is theater. When I was at the peak, you know, as a movie star, I truly missed theater so I went back to it by doing Bona," she relayed.
