Currently playing Mel Barrera-Montenegro in the Kapamilya suspense-thriller series What Lies Beneath, Sue Ramirez has long been known as one of the country’s most talented and beautiful actresses. Off camera, she is also a dutiful daughter to her mother Concepcion “Chit” Garina and a loving sister to her four older siblings.
Last January 5, the 29-year-old actress shared a personal plea in two posts on her Instagram Stories. In the first post, she is seen standing beside a hospital bed, with one hand affectionately touching her mom. Sue wrote, “kumakatok po ako sa inyong mga puso, it may be too much to ask, but if anyone here would be willing to donate blood for my mom, it would mean so much and could help save her life.”

Sue shared that her mother will be undergoing open heart surgery on Wednesday, January 7, and is in dire need of blood donations. The Star Magic artist also added what blood types are eligible to be donated for this cause. “Blood types B+. B-, O+, O- are eligible to donate with no alcohol intake for at least 48 hours,” she added.

In a succeeding post set in black and white, Sue shared a selfie with her mom from the hospital bed. She wrote, “If you can’t donate blood, prayers for her healing and strength would be deeply appreciated. Thank you so much.”
Sue’s mom, who hails from Sipalaya City, Negros Occidental, served at two national labor and union organizations. She had five children including Sue with American James Peter Dodd who was a retired senior officer in the United States state department who passed away in 2013.

In a previous interview, Sue had always been open about how her mom Chit had been a strong female figure in her life especially after her father suffered a stroke when she was six, leaving him unable to work for the rest of his life. This meant Sue’s mother had to step up and take care of Sue and her siblings, as well as her bedridden father.
“Our home growing up was always filled with love, sometimes tough love from our mom, but you know, alam namin na pinalaki kami nang maganda. Outside of our home, if people criticized me… I didn’t really care that much because I went home to a loving home,” she shared in an interview with Magandang Buhay in 2016.
In another interview in 2021, Sue told the press that she will always give full credit to her mom for raising her to be a responsible and independent woman. She said, ““All that I am is because of my mom. I would like to say that I was raised well and all thanks to her. All of the positive things people say about me, it's because of her, of how she raised me. I am very grateful.”
