Megastar Sharon Cuneta took a trip down memory lane as she marked nearly five decades in the entertainment industry, thanking her loyal fan base, the Sharonians, for their unwavering support.
On Instagram, Sharon shared a fan-made video and reflected on how her remarkable career began when she was just a young girl.
“Happy Anniversary to my Sharonians!” Sharone expressed. “Forty-eight years ago, our driver picked me up from St. Paul College Pasig where I was in 6th Grade. He said that (my uncle, second father) now Senate President Tito Sotto had asked my Dad to have me brought straight from school that day to Vicor Music Corp., where he was VP of Production.”
Sharon shared that it took a year before she agreed to record her first song after her uncle heard her sing at a family gathering. At the time, she already dreamed of becoming a star like her second mother and aunt, former actress Helen Gamboa.
“I had waited a whole year, since he heard me sing at one of my parents’ parties at our home, and then asked me if I wanted to make records. Records!!! I was twelve and had stars in my eyes because I wanted to be a star like my Mama Helen (Gamboa), his wife, since early childhood!” Sharon added.
The Megastar noted that the first demo that her uncle let her hear was “Tawag ng Pag-ibig” that eventually became her first official single.
“When I entered his office, he played me a demo of a song on cassette tape. It was 'Tawag ng Pag-ibig,' which was to be my first single. To cut this short, it became a medium hit,” she said.
She went on: “Then he asked Rey Valera to make me a song. He did—"MR. D.J." And, well…you all know the rest of the forty-eight year old story.”
Expressing gratitude for her journey, the Megastar thanked God and her supporters for standing by her throughout the years.
“God has blessed me with an only-He-could’ve-given unbelievable career, an amazing life, AWESOME and LOYAL and LOVING SHARONIANS. I am forever grateful to God and to all of you! Thank you so much for staying with me all throughout my journey. I love you all with all my heart!!! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙌🏻🥰😘🤗💐🌸🌹🌼,” she expressed.
The reflection came shortly after Sharon celebrated her 60th birthday on ASAP where she got a surprise tribute.
Singing champions Jed Madela and Erik Santos opened the tribute with “Pangarap na Bituin,” followed by Sharon’s performance of “Terminal” by Rupert Holmes.
She was later joined onstage by fellow icons Martin Nievera, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Ogie Alcasid, and Julia Montes, whom she didn’t expect to appear and join her in singing Don McLean’s “Birthday Song”.
A highlight of the celebration was Sharon’s duet of “The Promise” with her husband, Senator Kiko Pangilinan. She also received birthday messages from Judy Ann Santos, Donny Pangilinan, Gary Valenciano, and heartfelt greetings from her family, including her four children.
Sharon capped the tribute by thanking everyone who has been part of her journey and blowing out the candles on her birthday cake.
