Celebrity dancer and actress Jopay Paguia shared how she and the rest of the singers of the SexBomb Girls decided to not push through with their partnership with talent manager, Joy Cancio. In an interview with King of Talk Boy Abunda earlier this month, the two recalled the time when the members of the SexBomb Girls didn’t renew their contract with their former talent manager.
Jopay was the first among the members to not renew her contract, as revealed by Joy.

Joy admitted how hurt she was when her talents decided not to renew their partnership, but upon self-reflection and having been part of a dance group before as well, she realized that it was for the better.
“Actually, si Jopay ang unang hindi nag-renew tapos sumunod si Rochelle [Pangilinan]. Pero syempre, nasaktan ako,” she shared.
“Pero, alam mo, parang ako yan noon eh, nasa grupo namin na Vicor, yun yung reflection ko na I need to grow. I have a dream. Yung dream ko ata hindi pupush kung nandito pa ako, so hindi ako magiging founder, manager, choreographer ng SexBomb kung nagsasayaw pa rin ako sa Vicor Dancers at that time,” she added.
Jopay then recalled the time when the members agreed with one another to leave the guidance of Joy. She acknowledged that they united against her at the time as they were also hurting.
“Naalala ko lang yung kwentong yan, Ate Joy, yung sa renewal. Naalala ko kasi kaming anim–– kaming singers–– parang nagusap-usap kami na wala na magrerenew at the time, sabay-sabay kami,” Jopay recalled.
The girls were asked one by one by Joy about their contract renewal. Jopay was eventually the first one to leave, followed by the others.
“Totoo po yun, napagkaisahan talaga si Ate Joy that day kasi sobrang sakit na po sa amin yung mga nangyayari. So doon sa point na yun na, ‘ano girls? tara na?’ Dumating rin sa point na ‘tara, lipat tayo sa iba’ –– dumating kami doon, to be honest,” she expressed.

While it’s been settled already and everyone has moved on from what had happened, Jopay maintained that it needed to be done in order for her to grow as well, even if it meant having no work at some point in her career.
Meanwhile, the SexBomb Girls are set to have another round of their reunion concert, Get Get Aw! this coming February 7 and February 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The previous shows have proven their popularity in the country as they have all sold-out.
